I am sooo confused about trailing a horsebox. I passed my test 4yrs ago and am looking to either use a trailer or buy a horsebox... Do I have to do another test for this?
I have been on the DVLA website but it doesn't seem to give a definite answer. Is there a difference between a horsebox and trailer? As in would I be able to drive a horsebox now but not a trailer?
Cheers!!!

Yes you can only drive a horsebox up to 3.5 tonne fully weighted. You will find most smaller horse boxes only have a payload of about 1 tonne or so, so would only really be able to carry two ponies or one horse depending on weight. You can pull a trailer only up to 1700kg i think and that is also fully loaded and a horse tralier is 1500kg alone. I have looked this up and decided to get a 3.5 tonne, but make sure you get it weighed to know what you can carry in it:)

You will need to do the B+E test for the heavier trailer

Unless you have passed your test before 1997 you can not tow a trailer of any kind, you have to do a towing test and you can drive upto 3.5t on a normal car license as well but anything over that you have to take an LGV which will take you up to 13T unless you passed your test before 1997 and then you can drive upto 7.5T:rolleyes:
