Hi Folks,
My daughters Welsh Sec D has rainscald. After a lot of research I found a general consensus that it starts as a fungal condition and then becomes bacterial if you scrub/pull off scabs which leave small open wounds.
Based on the above the advice was NOT to pick off scabs but to wash with Nizoral (or similar) which has a chemical in it to kill the fungal infection. I should gently massage in the Nizoral and leave on the skin for at least ten minutes, then scrape of the excess and allow to dry.
I have done the above and its now spreading. We don't have any significant hair loss thankfully but there is a small patch on him bum that is thinning. He is usually out 24/7 but has been in for three days as I don't want him getting drenched and rolling. He isn't itching in the stable which surprised me and seems to be his usual self in spirits.
Any advice ? Should I stop with the Nizoral ?
Thanks in advance
