Project Horses

Ref 2680: Phil - French Trotter Gelding - For Sale -

Phil is a three year old sweet natured bay gelding rescued from slaughter in France as he wasnt fast enough against the clock in racing time trials. He will make approx 14.2hh, and I beieve has probably been broken to harness to be raced.
Has been shod in the past, good to catch, rug, groom, load, stable, etc. Is an uncomplicated chap who needs evaluating as to what he has done in the past, and then reschooling / ? breaking in under saddle as a project. Comes with his French Trotters passport and is sold as seen from the field. He canters and jumps in his field. At present he has just been turned out with other youngsters but is now ready to go on and be useful!

I wonder if the person 'rescued' them solely with the intention of putting them on somewhere like project horses to try and sell them for profit?

if you read the mare one it comes around as they can't be bothered with her as she hasn't produced a foal, very sad

I'd hazard a guess that is more than likely......... there's a few dealers on these sites, and the fluffies are too fluffy to spot them....

is that a dealer JM? I remember whilst we were horse shopping a few years back there were a lot of horses advertised in blandford forum.

Has to be a dealer then. A very unscrupulous one with no morals. I dont have an issue with dealers as long as they actually give the horse a chance and its welfare isnt compromised.

So very sad. You see this on so many websites offering horses for sale

Why on earth do t**ts buy rescues from abroad? Theres hundreds of decent UK natives standing in sales wanting homes. The other thing that drives me mad is when someone says they have owned a horse since it was 6 months old, wait till its 5 or 6 YEARS old & THEN decide they can't handle it & sell it unbroken, bad with farrier, unable to load/catch etc etc... & BLAME THE PREVIOUS OWNER.
GRRR every time I go on that site I get wound up.

It seems with some of these horses it is not so much rescuing them from slaughter but giving them a temporary reprieve from slaughter, because you can guarantee that is where they will end up again very soon
