He is definitely feeling brighter in himself which is the important thing. he is happier being groomed and likes his itches itched. He will eat hay while being groomed now. However he is still reactive around between front legs and towards his chest. Not sure what that means. His breathing is still shallow and fast. 20/22 per minute which is concerning. He has had 17 days antibiotics now. The same with the iron supplement. He is booked in for gastro scope, bronco scope and bloods next thurs. here’s hoping it dosnt snow. He had 6 weeks ulcer meds and we stopped them a week ago. Spoken to vet again and he is to stay on abx and iron until we see what the scope and bloods show. I’m getting concerned at the length of time on abx but also concerned about stopping them before he is clear. I am worrying about a long term lung condition/scarring or whatnot. He dosnt seem sensitive to dust. We are lucky the hay and straw are very good and not dusty at all. Barn is well ventilated. So if it turns into a dust thing I think I would need to move him somewhere he could live out. I really don’t fancy this!

Hhhmmm. Tonight for evening meds he seemed exhausted and a bit grumpy. Not surprised as he must have been hooning today. BUT breathing rate was down slightly.

We all do it - but try not to leap ahead to the worst conclusions until you have the results of the tests and let's hope it is something temporary that can be fixed. He has been very poorly and, though antibiotics are wonderful, they are sometimes not an instant miracle cure. Also, it is the worst time of the year to have any respiratory problems.
If he has finished his ulcer meds, have you spoken to the vet about any gut supplement (like Protexin) to help him while he is on the antibiotics as they do strip the gut out of the good bacteria as well as the bad?

This is probably way out of left field, but I had a mare who became suddenly reactive around her front legs/chest after she was kicked when I was riding her. It turned out that she had torn some muscles in her chest jumping out of the way.
I know Robin's issues are most likely related to his current illness but just something to keep in mind if it continues perhaps?

Yes I have protexin there to use. Was going to wait until antibiotics finished but I think I will start it now.

I did wonder something like that. He had a swollen boobie for a couple of days so wondered if he had bruising that is still hurting. I’ll get vet to investigate.

Well that is the best news for a while on him. I think it is always so hard when they are ill especially for a long time. It's like being in a long tunnel and never knowing when the end of the tunnel is coming. This time of year is not making easy either I'm sure.
Fingers crossed for continued improvement and look after yourself as it is easy to get bogged down and worn out at times like this. x
