Rowan has been with us just under 3 weeks now and seems to be doing well.
The separation anxiety isn't a major issue - she's actually ok left on her own for a couple of hours - we've now discovered that she might whine quietly for a couple of minutes and then settles down and sleeps/eats her chew - she's quite a vocal dog anyway and the noise she makes is in no way problematic. She is however very, very happy when we come home and that's more of an issue now as she jumps up and scratches/yowls/yelps at the glass pane kitchen door when you get home - we ignore her until she calms and then open the door and continue to ignore her until we've been in 5 minutes or so.
She's now being exercised off lead in a local field and is fab - her recall is brilliant which means we can really tire here out - I also started practicing jogging with her today and she's good at that too - although I'm such a slow jogger than she doesn't even need to run to keep pace.
She had her pre Christmas bath and loved the shower but hated the dryer!!
We have had a few toilet issues this week - she stayed at my parents on Thursday and peed on the bathroom floor which she has never done - we think it was the combination of my parents giving her a salty ham bone and the fact that they'd decided to take her crate down as she never goes in it during the day anyway - lesson learned!
She did however poo on our bedroom floor the other day (at least I think it was a poo - it might also have been sick but was hard to tell). And yesterday, during the mayhem of Christmas day she just suddenly peed on my mums hall carpet - not sign of any warning and she'd been out and done her business about 2 hours earlier although she had drank a lot and everyone was winding her up playing with her yesterday much to my annoyance!
My question is, do some dogs just not let you know when they need to go? Our old boy was very vocal if he needed out and would make it clear to us whereas I feel like we are always trying to guess with her an if you get it wrong she'll happily toilet in the house and not get upset about it. - she's also very easily distracted when out - she started doing the toilet the other day and a bird flew quite low over her and she stopped and tried to chase - again the old boy would have finished his business first but with her you sometimes have to force the issue.
It's still early days and we are still working her out but I just want to make sure we don't miss any signs as obviously, we really don't want her toileting in the house! I do wonder if she was properly toilet trained or if there is still more work we need to do (we let her our regularly and always praise her for doing it outside).
Any thought/suggestions welcome - piccies below for anyone interested!
