Hello

I'm just wondering what weight your rugs are in gram and what gram you change to for night/day or summer/winter etc?

Thankyou!

fully clipped chunky monkey is now out in 300/350g HW during day

and then MW full neck underug (i'd say around 200g) with a LW stable rug over the top (100g)

what a pampered prince eh!

For Bodey I have, no fill, 150g, 220g and then 350g.

He is quite a hot pony and is in the 150g both day and night (around 9C here at the moment). When it gets closer to 0C then he will go into the 220g, and only if it gets really, really cold the 350g. Oh and he has a blanket clip.

Summer he is naked, oh maybe a fly sheet.

tbxwb is in a no fill rainsheet full time. tb is in 250g full time. When it gets colder I will put his 360g on and put the 250g on the tbxwb.

They dont wear anything through summer until November.

wow a cob in a HW during the day? ;-)

My cob pony is clipped right out and in a mw during the day and a thick fleece or mw at night....

My HW cob is currently wearing a 350g turnout and a MW stable rug at night, but that's only because he's just recovered from an infection and the vet wants him kept warm.

The only time last year he wore the 350g was for three days during the blizzards. He usually wears a 220g at most, and a fleece at night. In summer either fly rug or no fill turnout, and if he wears something in the stable it's a cotton sheet to keep him clean.

welsh, high blanket clip just redone.

200g turnout in day

nigth just moved up from 150g to old 300gm stable that isnt that warm anymore.

has a hw 370g for night if really cold as he tends to get chilly when not moving about.

cobs still in 200g at min. may change if this cold weather we are epecting arrives. Warmbloods in 300g. Will move up to 400g when colder. They live out with a big barn for shelter tho

Fully clipped coblet who is the correct weight (WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!

) doesn't own a HW rug.

Currently out in a MW all day, in at night with a MW on, with a thin waffle cooler thing over the top on cold nights. If it gets really cold at night I'll swap the cooler for a LW stable rug, or if absolutely freezing (as in -5 or below) he'll have a fluffy rug on under his MW. I am rugging him a little more this year because every other year I've under-rugged him so he can shiver off some fat

If it isn't raining or blowing a gale, my unclipped (but doesn't grow a winter coat) medium weight cob goes out naked.
If raining or blowing a gale she wears a light / medium weight Weatherbeeta rug.
She's stabled at night, I do the last check at 11pm. If she's naked and warm enough, she stays naked, if she got cold or wet during the day and hasn't dried off / warmed up then she keeps her outdoor rug on.

She also owns medium weight and heavy weight rugs.

Chancer - gypsy cob is hunter clipped and is in a 200 rug day and night, though went back to the 100 during the day a few times last week as it was so warm. He did have his 300 on for one day two weeks ago when it was below 1.

If it goes below 1, then he goes onto his 300 rugs and if below -5, then the 300 and 100 underneath.

Farra - clydesdale - is blanket clipped and in either 200 or 100 rugs and until recently was in a no fill t/o during the day as it has been so mild in Essex.

She too will be hunter clipped late January and then both of them will be in 200 or 300 rugs to give them a thinner summer coat. I rug them slightly warmer between January and March, purely to get the thinner coats for summer so they don't need clipping. However, I keep them warm but never have them hot as they will rub like mad.

I have four rugs from no fill to 300 of both outdoor and stable so I can change the weight each day if needs be, as I check the weather forecast daily and rug accordingly. Sounds anal but I do hate to see horses too hot or shivering cold.

my cob isn't clipped ...I don't even own a HW or MW rug..she is in a rain rug only during the day providing the temp (including wind chill ) is 5 degrees or above, from 5 to 0 she is in a light weight rug ..no collar...and if below freezing then depending on how low I double /triple rug with fleece and or padded stable rug ...

..she was in the deep snow earlier this year in a fleece, padded stable rug and lightweight rug....and she was as warm as toast...perfect.

I prefer layering as opposed to specific rug weights..as you can't change them ie if you have a 400g rug you can't change it to 300g or 500g layering means you keep the correct temp for the horse all year round without all the expense.

My cob has a trace clip and is currently on box rest, he wears a fleece when it goes beow zero and is naked otherwise.

If he were still out (overnight) he'd be in a 40g rug when really cold (below zero) or just a rainsheet when it's very wet.

I never rug in any thing other than a rainsheet unless it's below zero as I have native/cob types that are good do-ers.
