Does a Group 8 rider on a horse with no points enter the Open or Restricted section ? I thought it was Restricted but the organiser said no and put us in the Open. So now Im confused

Please can anyone clarify ? Thanks in advance

Without a doubt you should be in the Restricted section. Has your horse been downgraded and had points with a diferent rider.. unlikely it would have been downgraded to nil points.. so Ive answered my own question...
Question the organiser.....

No I was on the last minute with the entry so I left the section bit blank and then rang to make sure it had arrived in time. I said I hadn't completed it as I wasn't sure which section to go in, explained it was Group 8 rider and horse with no points, and she just said it would be the Open section. But then seeing the BD rule amendment about the "buffer zone" for points made me think it should have been Restricted

No he has not been downgraded, I only affiliated him this year. Thanks for that - so if he was in the Open section and then won overall (O and R), does it make any difference qualification-wise if he was in the Open but should have been in the Restricted ?

If you win an open section, then you stay in the open section....You cannot switch from section to section. Nor can you swap sections after your entry has been accepted i.e it has been known in the past for competitors to eye up the competition, on the day, and swap.. The rules were changed to stop this!

You need to insist that you are in the Restricted section... check with BD, but I think that once you have ridden your horse in an open, you have to stay Open.

Thank you

Funnily enough you are the second person to have just commented on him.

I have emailed BD so see what happens - or Troi may be able to explain in simple English for me ...

I think you will find that if you leave the section blank on the entry form regarding sections you are automatically put into the open section,im sure thats what the rules state or the organisers guidelines.

Which level were you competing in? If you were novice and above you should be restricted, however, if it was prelim it works the other way round.

Open = member or non-member, registered or non-registered horse, horse not to have more than 37 points. Open section is not eligible for regionals.

Restricted = must be rider member but can ride non-registered horse with more than 37 points and is eligible for regionals (although horse registration must be done to do the regionals).

Hope that helps.

[/ QUOTE ] No - you can compete as Restricted at your next show.

BBee is right - if you leave the section blank, then the organiser will put you in the Open section - and you're not allowed to swap sections after close of entries.

Group 8, no points, horse no points - definitely Restricted.
