Well after we started bringing kyra back into work, - going brilliantly!! started doing 25-30mins hacking, we turned her out about 4 days ago, and came in with her hock bleeding, to be honest we didnt think much of it, why would you if it stopped bleeding?,

the lighting was crap so couldnt see much washed it off, hippi scrubbed it and at first we thought it was a bit of mud fever any way it had stopped bleeding so didnt bother calling vet out or anything,

turned out again a couple of days later and she came in with blood on her hock again, from what mum said, it had scabbed up, i tried clipping the fur off to try and see what was going on but the clipper died on me

and course it was dark again so didnt see anything, from bringing her in we thought it was mud fever cuz of the scab

she has been buted up for the past 2weeks any way, with her sacrilliac, ,

- looking at it when she first did it i would you say it would have to be stitched or vet,

anyway, mum got farrier just to look at it when he came out, he said i would call the vet out, because of infection etc,

didnt think much of it, anyway had to get the emergency vet out,

they said she was very very lucky to of just missed one of her ligaments, if the cut went any further down even by a mm, she would of had to of had a opperation, she is now all bandaged up on penicillen, and can only walk out of the stable to be mucked out, if she goes seriously lame now she is off the bute, then further action will need to be required

well things have to come in threes dont they so what on earth is going to happen next

I get paranoid about anything near a joint - nearly lost Tiggy due to a silly cut, luckily it just missed the capsule.

Fingers crossed that you have a break from disasters for a good long while.

Oh dear =[ quick idea though, have a torch in your tack room? Then if anything does happen in the dark you can get the light really up close and have a look.

I also agree with the post saying farrier - foot, vet - everything else. Although you do say he only had a look when he was out anyway. Generally any lameness at all I get the farrier for, but the vet comes for cuts, bruises, and anything else xxxxx

Similar thing happened to our mare, we were lucky because the vet came out with a very strong lamp and what seemed like a mile of extension cable to get to where our mare was as the light in the stable was not bright enough. We have now bought a strong lamp and invested in a really long extension cable just in case. Mindyou I have always found that if you don't have something you need it and if you have something you don't need it - sod's law I suppose
