Another showing post - which classes can we do?

I normally take Murphy to a friendly little local show where I feel quite safe but this month we're going to two slightly bigger local shows.

So...what classes can we enter??

I am not too bothered about winning, more bothered that we don't get laughed out of the ring

. can't do anything that involves jumping more than 1ft6, or riding in a snaffle, and would like to do some in hand and some ridden...

Here is the beast:

part bred m&m then if it doesnt have a be reg to enter. Or you could hog his mane and take his feathers off to do show cob but i think he would look too small up againts 15.1s

Traditional cob classes - in hand and ridden
Break the damn beast to drive - ha ha - you will proper love that (I bet he is broken to drive anyway)
Tack and Turnout
Pull his mane and gor for heavyweight working hunter pony?
Fancy dress? :-P
Handy pony
Native breeds (if they accept x breeds)
Any riding horse classes (you get allsorts in them)
Equitation?

Condition and turnout might be fun! Loads of work fluffing him up and shining his coat. What about a best rider class too?

He came 2nd in the last best condition class we entered

but there's no such class at the two shows we're off to this month. We did do best rider last time too, we came 2nd out of 2, I am honestly an appalling rider and I think I'd be too scared to do a class like that anywhere else!!

browbrow - I have got plans to break him to drive one day, but I'd have no idea what i was doing so I'd have to pay someone to do it and am too skint (don't think he has ever been driven....)
Would we have to jump in WHP? 'm not sure I could pull his mane, I like it loooong!!

numpty question alert: what is equitation??
blush.gif

equitation is all about the rider ability

ahh - you dont need someone to break him to drive - get some driving lessons and do it yourself - I did with mine!!! infact - I bet I drive mine now more than ride her - she likes it more - and looks ace !! plus it adds value to the horse - mine is up for sale at a lot more than what she would be if she was just to drive!

coming second out of two - thats great!! your a comedy genius!! xx

do you have a show schedule? or a link to it?

oh and you think you love the onf mane but I pulled my girls last week from about 15 inches to three and she looks fab all pulled and plaited she looks amazing!! she looks tons classier and not as fat and cutsey! xx

Theresa F - he'd be good in a Family Pony class....perhaps I'll just grab a random child from somewhere and plonk them on him
wink.gif
He'd behave perfectly in a snaffle for a little child, he just likes to test me

Could I enter him in a cob class and an M&M class at the same show?! Or would that be weird??

I would take him in traditional cob inhand/ridden,
Do they have riding club horse/pony? (usually has one jump, about 2ft)
Best turned out?
Equitation is where you do a little show of your own (I think lol) you are judged on your riding and way the horse goes) Borrow someone for family pony, (doesn't have to be a snaffle from what I've seen

I never put Chancer in any sort of M&M - he is pure gypsy cob and I know a lot of M&M people would not be pleased to see a hairy cob, however as he is fell x and not coloured you may get away with it locally. Don't worry about not being plaited if he is being shown as fell type.

You may be ok if they have a cob type class - these I do with Chancer as they can be shown hogged or natural. They are not too fussy on height. I have seen entries on the big section D/fell types do both M&M and cob type on the same day.

If it is local, then try things and see how you do - though round where I am, local showing seems to be getting more and more competative and serious which is a great shame for people wanting to just have fun.

It really pees me off when I see people who do county level and win constantly at this level going to small local shows - yes I do affiliated showing but have never won a championship or anything that great and normally am always beaten locally as the judges rarely like the hairy trads especially when there is a flashy TB or welsh in the class.

lol - ive done loads of Part bred M&M and they have all been left free and easy ? Never seen plaits in the part bred class? isnt it odd how showing rules differ all over the country? x

ive never seen plaits in part bred m&m either!! Do they have fun classes, such as most handsome gelding, best mane and tail etc etc?
Good like whichever you decide to do!!

ive never seen partbreds unplaited (unless they are hogged) and i show extensively. I do lots of WPCA shows and the partbreds are alway plaited unless they are foals.
