Is there an etiquette thing regarding saddlecloths/numnahs?

I need to buy madam a numnah/saddlecloth, I'd like it to be personalised because I think it'd be good for WHW if people can see what sort of horses they have!

So that'd need to be square, not cut to the saddle. Is that ok, for just hacking? xx

I know that some may feel there's an ettiquette here, but tbh I'd buy her whatever you want to buy her.

I hack mine in saddle cloths and nobody's come at us shrieking yet ;)

As long as it doesn't have the words: "Go Faster!" emblazoned on it, you should be fime:)Mine has "High Speed" on it...I swear that mare can read:mad:

Do different styles suit different ponies? She's a cob so she has a big tummy, so I'm thinking a square one? x

I like the square saddle cloths. But I also like the fitted numnahs, which is best? there is only one way to find out!....... Fight.....:p

Sorry, I got distracted then! Does anyone at your yard have any so you can see which style suits best? The saddle cloths (square ones) may be the way to go especially if you want it personalised.

What colour you going for?

:)

Could you borrow a couple to try? It's much easier to see what suits and fits best if you can try a few different cuts.
I have dozens of them you can try, if you are in my neck of the woods:)

This is her yesterday - its black obviously, I would want bottle green :) x

Why would you get shrieked at by riding in a saddle cloth?

On another thread today, a few posters commented that conventionally only games ponies and gypsy ponies wore saddlecloths - and it was considered somewhat lower class (I think?). (I did ask what the rest wore - nothing, numnahs or sheepskin pads - but I don't think they saw it). I presumed Cedars was asking this as a result of that, but perhaps I was mistaken

I actually hadnt read that post but thats interesting! Are saddlecloths the square ones, numnahs the saddle-shaped ones?! x

Has my mother joined the forum?! This sounds like a mothership rant if ever I heard one :p

She will, grudgingly, buy me saddle cloths now though. Bless her heart, she must love me a little bit at least :)

C, buy her what you like and to hell with everyone else! I think she would look very smart in green :)

Yes, or at least, that is my understanding of things :o

Jess it was Maesfen. Does this mean Maesfen is your mother  :D I was intrigued as it's not something I've ever heard before.

I don't think so? Although we do often agree on things so perhaps  Only her name isn't the same as the mothership's (not her forum name, her name name) unles it is my Mumble's trying to trick me in disguise!

I think my mother and Maesfen would get on swimmingly. And I mean that as a huge compliment to both of them. :)

Well I must be really common as I only own one numnah and the others are all saddlecloths  and the numnah rubbed his back so he doesnt wear it any more  does that make him common?

I digress OP she would look lovely in a bottle green saddle cloth, I really like the HKM ones they come in loads of colours and are good quality (and you can get matchy stuff to go with them if that takes your fancy :D).

haha well that's sorted then. Maesfen is your mother in disguise, thus meaning (as previously established :p) she is an awesome legend :D

O.M.G. Fergs is too posh for his saddlecloths - that's why they're rubbing him

Cedars I think she'd look lovely in bottle green, and the HKM matchy matchy sets are niiice :p
