Well providing its not hammering it down tomorrow, I'm dragging little cob in for a clip. Only a bib and belly, as she sweats up at the drop of a hat, and I've found her stood sweating in the field a few times too.
Question is... Shall I hog her too??? I've been toying with the idea for a while now, but have never worked up the nerve to actually do it! I'd leave her forelock, she has a HUGE white face. My mum says "NO WAY" leave her as she is with her pouffy fluffy mane, she thinks she looks "sweet", but I'm thinking ahead to when I might want her to look smart/tidy. I take her hunting in her full mane-d furry glory and no one minds at all as she is always sparkly clean and well turned out.
I just don't know whether I fancy a change! What do you think?

And one of us jumping - you can't truly appriciate how fluffy it is until she springs about!

Not the best pics, but you get the idea!

Hog!! I *love* coloureds hogged :-)

It took me years to pluck up the courage to hog my old mare, but she looked so smart, I did my youngster too!

Hog xx

we had ours done a couple of weeks ago, I really wasn't sure but now very glad as really like it....

I like to see them hogged and smart:D

What really impressed was that jump, such enthusiasm and super technique.
You should show her as a working cob if she is within height.

Thanks be postitive, she lives to jump - I hate the phrase, but she really is a 'jumping machine'! I'd love to show her, but she has a couple of scars and a small patch on her neck where she got sunburn before I bought her and the hair has gone a bit sparse. She's just 14.3hh btw. x

Hog - and while you are at it - clip it all off, legs and all, will look much smarter!! And DO NOT leave the forelock on, my pet hate!!

She already has feathers off - she had heel mites when I bought her so they were all clipped. I did try to grow them out when she'd been treated but it didn't suit her at all.

I'll post a pic tomorrow when I've done the deed! Eek!

Hog (BUT THEN BE CAREFUL RE: SUNBURN ON HER CREST).

Think yours is a similar type to my mare - this is her hogged (I alternate between a pulled mane, hogged and hairy!)

She's lovely Piebaldsparkle! Don't worry, her little baldy patch isn't covered by her mane anyway, in typical scruffy style, her mane naturally falls to the wrong side and no amount of training it over does anything! So I have to suncream it anyway, mane or no mane. I use Naf Sunshield or Sudocrem (highly recommend the Naf stuff for pink noses - it stays put for days!).

I got up this morning all psyched up to do it (after spending half the night waking up thinking "oh god what if I hate it?!") and... That's right, its pishing it down! Sods law, as my mum suggested we pop cob on the trailer and go to her house to clip her, as mums house is about 100yds from the beach, as opposed to the 20 minutes hack from our yard to the beach.
I'm going to pop to the yard, drag her in and stable her to dry off, and hopefully it wil have stopped raining by this afternoon! Otherwise clip will have to wait until the weekend as I'm working tomorrow. Bloody weather!

I did it! And she looks great!

Mum almost cried when I did it, and I was going "yeeeeeek! Ohmigod ohmigod ohmigod!" as the huge locks of hair were falling around me!
So so so pleased I did it now though.
(And yes, that is a forelock you can see rolled up in a big fat plait between her ears! I'm going to thin it out, and eventually get rid of it. I thought if I left it there it would make the transition a bit less shocking for my poor old mum!)

Yay - she looks beautiful!! I would have voted for HOG! I was the last to put a hog or no hog thread on here last week and despite being desperate to do it I am glad that I listened to the majority who said 'NO'. Your mare was a definite yes as soon as I saw her but mine suits trad best.

How exciting - I bet it's like having a new pony! I award her two carrots for being beautiful!

xx

I'd hog but be prepared to use lots of suntan lotion this summer!!!
I'd love to hog my shire as he constantly has his mane chewed by the baby but he has the most amazing forelock and I just can't bring myself to lop that off. So hog her on Bisto's behalf. ;)

Thanks =D I'm not looking forwards to riding her tomorrow, I'd gotten used to a big fluffy mop in front of me! Now I have nothing to grab onto if she unseats me with a big leap over a jump!
(*moseys off to search for recent 'RS-tor' thread, or buy a nice new 5 point breastplate*) lol x

Yay!!

I kept my mares forelock on for the first couple of years, as she has a very white face like your mare.....however, I have to say, she looks better without it.....;-)
