I'm sorry to ask more trailer questions and sorry this might be long- the shortened version is...

Should I just take out the back partition and get a full width bar on the back or should I get both front and back bars and take out the whole partition. I nearly always travel on my own (have done for the last 3/4 months)

Problem is that horse is not a happy traveller and kicks out with back legs at the start of the journey.
Have so far tried stable mirrors which are ok but haven't fixed the problem. He loads fine, touch wood, has no trouble getting in just temper tantrums a lot on route and when stationary.

Going to order them today and can't decide whether to get one or both.

I would go ahead, especially as you are ordering anyhow and there's admin and collecting, etc.

Horses travel better when they have lots of room and diagonally too. Lots of people tie them up tight, but if they can't escape, they are better loose and always put themselves diagonally rump to rear when left to their own devices.

If you transport a friend, is it not too often, and can you then easily put it all bck in?

I spoke to Ifor Williams before I made this decision myself. They advised that they could see no particular reason why you should not travel a horse with just the rear partition removed and a full width rear breeching bar. However they then said that they would recommend removing the full partition and using two full widths front and rear. Mmmmm!

I decided to go for the two as I had a horrible thought that if I just had the rear partition out and my trailer were to overturn in an accident, not only would the horse end up with standard overturn injuries but could also end up wrapped round the central column which could not possibly be good for her ribs (although it might be a way to get the stiff old bag to bend in the middle!!)

Not sure that helps!

Lol, I did exactly that- rang IW in Corwen and totally confused the poor man who didn't/couldn't help me come to a decision! I knew if I posted someone would kick me into action and make my decision for me!

That's the thing, I'm going to get it couriered so if getting one doesn't help then I will have to pay to have the second one delivered too. I think I should get both and see how it goes

My friend just ties the rear part of her partition to one side without any adidtional bars and her mare travels great now.
In my first Ifor I just had the front bar but on my 2nd Ifor I got both mainly because I had an awful thought of all his weight on the ramp and the clasps giving way and him falling out backwards

. Im such a pesimist!!
IW dealership did say they personally thought it was fine just to use the front one but he added that IW as a company would recomend getting both.

Both back and front bars compulsory?? Oh dear! My mare travelled for 6 years with only a full width front bar very happily. I clipped on lead ropes on either side to stop her turning round and she stood diagonally, as mentioned. It would worry me keeping the centre column in, why not take all the partitions out? I used a rubber covered chain onto baler twine at the back, worked a treat.

Think - and could be wrong! - but its is law that you should have both breast and breech bars

Not sure whether it is law or not but would leave front partition in and hence bracing bar

Or buy the pair to use front and back and full width.
