Thanks for all your help with my last question.
Following on from that I am looking to buy a new fairly lightweight trailer, if we manage to successfully travel without the partition.

What would you recommend? What trailers do you have? Have you heard anything bad about certain makes? Someone did say something to me about Ifor Williams not being a very smooth ride, has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks again!

Ifor Williams - Robust, keeps value, does the job but no finesse.

Cheval A (not sure of 2nd word) - Lightweight, smooth quiet travel, easy to move, not sure about holding value & possibly bit flimsy.

Batson - mixture of above two but more expensive.

I would say the safe option was the Ifor.

Ifor WIlliams, Rice Richardson, Cheval Liberte, Fautras - theres loads on the market.

I think you need to be careful you stated this in a previous post:

I know you can buy herringbone trailers now but all of those on the market are too heavy for me to tow, having passed my test since 1997!

If you check the DVLA/DSA website it give you all the information about towing and I dont think that you will be able to tow a trailer with a horse in it on your current license

I actually spoke to the DVLA and they said that as long as the total weight of towing vehicle, horse and trailer was less than 3.5 tons there is no problem.

True, but that is virtually impossible - I believe it is the MAM of the trailer that they take into consideration which is going to be at the very lest 1750kg - plus your car will most likely be more than 1750kg, so you would be over. Even if they take it on actual weight, my old set up was over (SWB 4x4, 2250kg, ifor 505, 850kg, 15hh arab, 450kg, plus water, tack, dog etc, def over 3.5t)
TBH I really wouldn't risk it!! Trailer test isn't that hard, and could save you a big fine and points on your licence.

Bateson Deauville, 860kg ulw, max laden weight 2300kg well built, beautiful to tow, very little rattle unlike other makes, & they retain their value very well.

Im not saying that youre wrong, but unfortunately the DVLA dont have a highly recommended service for giving correct information out. I was told that I could tow on L plates but not on the motorway. Well you can tow on L plates on the motorway just like you can drive HGVs on L plates on the motorway.you already have the license to drive just that your provisional for the other part.

It sounds very tricky to not have your MAM to be under 3.5t for car, trailer and horse.
I decide to make sure that I wouldnt ever have problems and am taking the test. Saying that there is no way I could squeeze what I have got into the 3.5t as I drive a discovery, have a Show trekka equitrek trailer and my horses range form Welsh D's to a 17.2hh Warmblood!

Regarding the bit about Ifors not being very smooth - I have an ifor and its very smooth, I take my youngster up and down the motor way and he's as quite as a mouse. I even had to stop in a traffic jam once to make sure he was still in there!!
But I think Ifors are great and would defo recommend.

Compared to other makes, for the money Ifors are great value and stand the test of time but they have leaf spring suspension which are reknown for giving a bumpier ride. I stood in the back of my last IW whilst it was moved across the car park at a show and I was surprised at how bumpy it was. Saying that Ive never done the same in another make of trailer so I could be talking a load of rubbish

.
Our old 4trak had the same suspension and it was awful on the motorway, the newer one with independant suspension is like being in a normal smooth car.
Think it depends on how much you want to spend.
