As requested a little update on Ted, the very sad 5yo.
Previous thread is here http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?656983-Latest-update-on-horse-%93In-Pain%94
Following a visit to specialist vet clinic he was diagnosed with severe hind gut acidosis, although further tests were required to confirm exactly what was going on. Swabs and poo samples were taken but in the meantime he was put on Equishure. Within a few days he started to show signs of improvement. Very subtle, but a little more with it. Amongst other things, he had started to look vacant, like he was looking at things that werent there? But after a few days of Equishure he seemed a bit more interested in life. As the days went on he stopped head shaking, and started to come out of his stable in a controlled fashion rather than stagger out, unable to bend.
He has been on the Equishure for a month now and is looking heaps better. He has started to pick up weight wise, and is generally more interested in people / life. At last, we seem to be making progress!
Vets report of poo analysis has come back and from what I can gather (apologies this is third hand!), he has abnormally low levels of good bacteria in his hind gut(lowest vet has seen), so will shortly be starting treatment. Exactly what the treatment is Im not sure, but he will have a month of this before being re-assessed, and then some good bacteria can be introduced. If anyone wants details of exact treatment pm me and Ill find out.
So at last some positive news : )
