For those of you who didn't read my previous posts: Kingsley has been diagnosed with navicular disease, SI strain and described as bad assymetry/crookedness case by his physio. He had most modern drugs pumped/injected into him. No change for over a year.

As a last resort we took him to Rockley Farm for barefoot rehab. He's been there since 9th of October this year.

I watched yesterday's footage of Kingsley's walk with amazement. For the first time in over a year he walks straight, no medial deviation of hocks, no screwing his tail to the side...he is compensating less and less.

His feet still have a long way to go but the fact he grows a totally different angle/shape of horn is interesting to say the least.

I just wanted to share this as I know some of you are battling with variety of soudness and schooling issues. I don't want to say that barefoot is an answer to everything but Kingsley's example is a living proof yet again that better foot mechanics gives the horse a better body...

His spinal/lateral crookedness, SI weakness have been worrying us for a long time as it seems to have been progressing despite all the "treatement".
Now we are finally daring to be positive!

Perhaps this might of interest to those of you who have horses with back issues. Apprently, most lamenesses (also low grade) cause back issues but not many back problems cause lamenesses.

I guess what Kingsley is saying is, fix my the feet first please, the rest might follow.

Brilliant news :-) i look at the blog every day.x

My boy Bailey left Rockley 10 days ago, his final day there out with the Exmoor foxhounds, i now have a sound horse who is much improved all round, balance, quality of movement. He too had back problems from unsoundness and 18 months of treatments and 9 months box rest all to no avail. He now hacks out with everyone at the yard no probs and they are all totally amazed. Rock on Rockley with out Nic Barker my horse would have been put to sleep 6 months ago, now he's a hunting machine. xxxxxxxx

Fantastic news!:D
Also it seems being able to grow the feet an individual horse needs that goes with, rather than against their body is a crucial element.

Lainey Nic and I know each other very well and it was her results with these horses that inspired me to take on my rehab, who is another who was to be put to sleep ten months ago, who now jumps, competes dressage and hacks on very poor surfaces barefoot, completely sound, and much happier mentally than the horse he was. Well done with Bailey.

Kingsley's photos are gobsmacking enough, without the knowledge that the changes happened in FOUR WEEKS!! Congrats are due to you, Viola, for acting so quickly on advice given to you on HHO by a group of total strangers. I think you are going to get a sound horse to reward you, by the look of it!!

I am so pleased that Kingsley looks to be on the road to recovery, I know what a big decision it was for you to take, but it looks as if it is the right one for him.
I look forwards to the rest of his progress!

That tail is very interesting, and there are lots of lightbulbs flashing in my brain.
Mm, makes me wonder!

Well done Kingsley, keep up the good work.

Yes, if I lived nearer to Rockley I would be there snapping and filming every step! I must say though, the biggest congrats go to Kingsley's owner (I'm just her instructor and Kingsley's carer) who, after so many failed treatements, so many vets giving so many different diagnosis still agreed to give this otpion a go.
My junior SJ horse ended his and my career due to "navicular" in the 90'. I've spent years watching him deteriorating in wedges that went higher and higher. When Kingsley was advised to have those put on too I put the post on here - I have heard about barefoot rehab before but wasn't sure where the place was etc.

Having read your posts I contacted Nic and both the owner and I knew it was the right thing to do.
I wish someone gave Rockley a massive grant so they can back up their results with scans and x-rays etc.

I keep everything crossed for the little man's further improvement.
