Had the farrier out to him today and it was not good.

Vet said he was sound 2 weeks ago (not for ridden work though), and that he was not in any pain when leg was touched. So Farrier picked up his hind leg and took his shoe off and trimmed and that was fine. Not a flinch.

However, when farrier picked up his other hind leg, poor boy got very upset indeed.

He doesn't have it in him to be naughty, but ears were back, teeth out, head up and trying to kick farrier away. He couldn't stand to bear ANY weight on his swollen leg.

Vet now coming back out next week to do another assessment before his op.

Just feel like it's another step backwards.

I'm just so upset that all this has happened. I'm looking forward to it all being over so I can actually post the whole story on the net. I feel like it's my fault for letting him go on loan in the first place.

Oh, I;m sorry. Don't blame yourself though for wishing he hadn't gone on loan.

Good luck for next week. He may be better by then? My horse was hopping lame, heat, swollen hind two years ago. Investigations etc. Just as vet was coming out to asses him again, he was mostly sound! All on his own, just happened. Still had no explanation of why he came sound, he just did.

So, I have my fingers crossed for you. Chin up.
