Firstly, thank you Cazee34 (Caroline) for your lovely reply to my last post.

Brought a tear to my eyes!

Right, well I emailed the ILPH like i said and they obviosly pooed themselves at the threat of us going to the press because 45 minutes later we got a phone call from the inspector we've been dealing with. He was on the phone to us for an hour and 12 minutes, so quite a lot was said which i wont bore you all with! But in a nut shell.........

........he wasnt told about the 'vomiting' - that makes a big difference apparently.

He's also been told that the owner is a man called 'C'. C is the big boss gypsy and he is NOT the owner. The owner is a man called 'A' - both are in Scotland at the mo. A man called 'S' is looking after the filly while they're away - S is C's brother. Anyway, no idea why they're lying, but they are.

Basically the inspector was really apologetic on the phone and said he's going back to see her on wednesday, hopefully with the owner and a vet. He was also very sorry for asking me to go and check on the filly.

He admitted that the filly looked as though she's given up on life and that her eyes are dead.

To top it off, i found out this morning that 4 months ago, she was heavily in-foal. They took her out on the trap one weekend and worked her so hard, she aborted when she got back. What are to be the likely implications of this (assuming no vet was called)? Would it explain the state she's in now?

Anyway, i've just been past her field and she's gone.

2 of the 3 colts in the opposite field are also missing. I'm assuming that they've all been taken out on the traps, as it's Saturday and that's what they do.

God only knows how she'll cope with that. It's possible that they've just moved her to another field, but i doubt it.
When i got home, dad said the ILPH inspector had called and said he'd just been to the field too and that she'd gone. He seems to think they've taken her to the vets, but i think that's wishful thinking. His number was withheld, so i've emailed him. I'll pass again later on the way to the yard and see if she's back. Fingers tightly crossed she's ok and they go easy on her.

So in a way i'm pleased because the email seems to have woken the ILPH up and kicked them into doing something, but now the filly's gone and i'm really worried.........

Thank you all for your support on this.

Im glad the ILPH are taking it seriously now. Poor Poor Filly. I hope she returns to the field. Well done you for persuing this! x

She is gone because the owner or his representative now knows that she is being looked at - they have just moved her away, I'll put money on it.

That would be my thoughts too. Doubtful she'll be seen again.

That did cross my mind, but these people aren't typical gypsies / travellers - they have permanent sites here (thanks to our fab council!

), so they dont have anywhere to hide the horses. I know all of the fields that they use, so unless they've sold her, i'm sure she'll be back. Wishful thinking maybe, but i dont want to think negatively at the mo. I'll just wait and see if she's back tonight.

Well done for your hard work and persistence with this but I would not be at all surprised, if she is as bad as that, that they wouldn't cut their losses and send her to Turners to avoid any hassle from the authorities although I hope not. Do they work on a Saturday, I don't know?

I hope she will come back so she can be seen by the vet. It's a bit sad you had to kick up such a stink before they would take it seriously isn't it?
frown.gif

I am afraid she will be hidden somewhere well away from their reach by now, probably in another county.
I hope I'm wrong but it sounds like they know they've been rumbled and moved all the horses elsewhere.
The fact one colt is still there may be helpful, but you need to try and get the car reg of the people looking after her so the police can at least trace them for the ILHP .
Do be careful, people like this don't take kindly to anyone reporting them, perhaps drive past and don't stop..

That's so very sad

Poor, poor girl

Well done on getting the ILPH to wake up and take notice. Although I would suspec, like others, that the filly has been moved, I hope not, so that the ILPH can do something to help her. Unfortuantely these people have 'scouts' out and about all the time, so any activities around the fieled may have been noticed.
I just hope this is not the case here.
Well done on what you have done.

Lou I meant every word x
I am now feeling quite dejected though as I was hoping and praying for a positive outcome for the filly.
The additional information about her being worked so hard whilst pregnant that she aborted is very hard to take in.
How can people do that to a horse or any animal for that matter
frown.gif

I too am fearing the worst that she may have been moved.
I can keep a look out in this area as we have gypsies nearby to see if any more additions turn up.
I feel so angry that the welfare organisations in this case the ILPH ( whom I previously had the utmost respect for) has let this filly down so badly.
Once again as with the poor little one that was lost a few months ago I fear it is all too little too late from a so called 'horse loving' organisation and I quote direct from the ILPH :
" Working for a world where the horse is used but not abused"
This welfare organisation should not have needed a proverbial 'kick up the backside' in order to act upon what is an obvious case of neglect ( at the very least nutrition and veterinary care) and possible cruelty ( saying possible but imho it is wanton cruelty, just trying to be pc).
However were it not for caring individuals like you Lou this filly would have had no one 'looking out' for her.
I really hope she is found and subsequently removed from these people who seem to have no care or compassion towards what are in my eyes beautiful creatures
frown.gif

I will keep everything crossed that she is x

Thank you all again.

Went past the field before and the colts had returned, but the filly hadn't.
frown.gif
However, for some reason the gypsies have been out today and moved all of the horses around. I pass 5 regularly-used fields on my way to the farm every day and i get to know all of the horses in them. Today they have all been swapped around.

When i got home i told my sis that she'd gone. She said that she's almost certain that she saw her in another field this afternoon. This is the field that the dead foal and her skinny mum were in - the ragwort infested rubbish dump. It's quite out of the way, so it would make sense for them to try and hide her there. Little do they know that we know them rather well!! It's too dark now, but we'll go and have a look in the morning. If it's her, i'll let the inspector know. Hopefully he'll realise that they're not willing to co-operate and action will be taken. We shall see.....

so glad that they finally responded to the pressure but still cant believe they dont plan to go back til wednesday. they must realise if any one got wind of this they would try and hide the evidence ie the horse. will keep everything crossed. as has been said by others i would contact email etc and pressure from many makes a difference. cant stop thinking where and how she is .

God I feel sick for the poor horse!! I do hope that she is found and the b4st4rds responsible for her are hung, drawn and quartered!

Genuine question, not trying to cause a row...

Don't you think, that if she's in such a bad state and has been so badly mistreated, it might be better for her to be taken to be shot? I can't imagine she would be a well balanced horse once (if) physically rehabilitated, so is it not better for her to be put out of her misery now?

If her condition is because she has a medical problem and she is suffering ,then Yes BUT she is a kind ,sad horse and deserves a chance. I hope she can be saved completely and put in a home I hope she is signed over to the ILPH

I hope they manage to find her, but I also hope for her sake that she has been taken to the abbatoir rather than moved on for this all to be prolonged.

I just cannot understand how anyone can treat an animal like this. It's beyond belief.

Well done for all your efforts in trying to get something done about these hideous people. I fear that it is too little too late on the part of the ILPH and I certainly will not be donating money to them again. I hate to think what has happended to that poor horse and almost hope she has gone to slaughter - at least she won't suffer any more. But, sadly, there will no doubt be another to take her place. You've done a marvellous job and deserve a pat on the back for your sheer determination and bottle.

not sure they'd bother with Turners TBH...more likely to dispose of her themselves.....

Yes, we found her.
grin.gif
She's ok. Didnt have hay or water at first, so we passed it on to the ILPH and they told them to sort it. She's got it now. Plus a new rug! Still waiting to hear what the blood test results showed.
