Another very shocked thread! Hoof related

ATCA - I am not sure of your horses history as have just read this tread but wanted to share my "shoes off" story too!

My horse had a severe abscess issues in a hind hoof this winter.... box rest, antibotics etc... went on for literally months and also ended up with a bullnose shapped hoof due to the damage. I have gone down the shoes off route too (also moved to different yard) and its 7 months since he first presented and he is back to being ridden :D

Again, I have been very lucky to have two super farriers (one at previous yard and the one at current yard), helping us on our way.

its lovely to read your story as gives real hope that changes to feed and turnout can solve the hoof issues.

Awww brilliant :) glad you've had a good time as well!
It's kept my lady much happier and sounder.
Had our home vet out today who is absolutely lovely and a specialist with EMS/cushings and laminitis. He said he's more than happy with her quality of life and how her feet are going. She's completely retired due to poor foot conformation(severely pigeon toed) but he said I can sit on her bareback haha even just for a few minutes! :)

wow what a defference!

Can i ask, what causes the 'bull nose' look? i seem to see it alot on shod horses hinds

Long toe, low/collapsed heel, excess sugars and starches in the diet/metabolic dysfunction/negative coffin bone angle......

You get a couple or all of these symptoms and you get a bull nosed hoof.

It's extremely common in shod hinds.

It tends to disappear when the hoof is allowed to grow into a correct shape and the diet is addressed.
