i am currently looking for a loan horse & have just been offered a 6 yr old16hh TB mare - finely built & out of work for 6 months
the owner is happy for her to be riddden by a rider up to 13 stone - but as 12 6lbs [ish] - i feel that i am too heavy
your opinions pls
obs as she is not my horse - i cannot post pics on a public forum

BTW - if she was to come to me - we would be hacking, a little dressage, maybe a little showing- no jumping

My gelding is 16.1hh TB 9 years old and really chunky with lots of bone (nine inches). I would not like him to regularly carry more than 12 stone (including tack), though he could probably carry 13 stone fine. He is reasonably fit, being schooled several times a week.

So, no. I do not think a 16 hh finely built TB that is out of work would be a suitable mount for you. If she was in peak fitness and had more muscle and topline then perhaps she would be okay. I would look for something a bit more solid TBH. A TB x ID or similar. Good luck!
