I stupidly rarely wear a BP but did today as I was riding a young inexperienced horse.... as I was heading torso first towards the arena fence I am soooo glad I did!

I think I could have been boobless!

Oh and while I preaching...wear a long top!

.... gross

coorr lucky you put it on! It's funny how occasionally it crosses your mind that you should put one on, and usually that's when it's needed...
We had two girls do this on our yard, one had her BP on and got dragged along the top of the fence  but luckily it just ripped the material on it.
Then a fortnight later one of the smarty pants grooms was showing off on a youngster who had bucked everyone off and did the same thing. Dragged along the top of a fence, without a BP and in a strappy top!!! It was horrific. Always makes me think twice about putting it on...

sazzle44 - that's what happened to me! Horse bucked and them lurched forwards at such a speed he sent me over his head and I scrapped along the arena fence for about 2 metres.

Thanks everyone, arm is stinging like mad but could have been much much worse. Luckily the horse wasn't mine and I was riding him as a one off, however I'm still going to wear BP every single time I ride now, it's just not worth the risk.

On a side note, do you think I could get the material on the BP replaced as the foamy stuff underneath looks in tact and as it still does it's job it seems silly to replace the whole thing?

A friend of mine got bucked off into a fence late last year and spent a considerably amount of time in hospital. I went to visit her, and it really does make you think twice about wearing 'only' a hat. She had fractured her wrist in many areas, broken ribs, a punctured lung, black eyes and this was from a schoolmaster.

Glad that you are okish, it looks like it could of been so much worst

ouch!

your wrist looks like it stings a bit too!

lucky you had the bp on! must admit i dont use mine for schooling but have got into the habit of it for hacking

Wow, that happened to me when I was a kid - my back was black and blue! Glad you're ok. I always try and remember to put long sleeved tops on too, partly because I get burned in the summer if I don't!
