On Monday 18 Jan my NF pony (Ginny) was lame on her near fore, I stabled her & called vet, thinking it may be an abcess. On examination she reacted to the hoof testers over both front pedal bones, 2/10 lame at walk & 4/10 trot and laminitis was diagnosed. 5 days later (Fri) she was effectively sound although a bit 'short' on the turns. The vet suggested x-rays, which were done last Wednesday and Ginny is most definitely sound at walk and trot. The x-rays didn't show anything screamingly abnormal , the only thing was that maybe there is a little too much height in her heels. She had her shoes removed in Oct/Nov and is due to be trimmed. As much as possible I like to keep my ponies barefoot/minimal shoeing but the vet is suggesting Imprint shoes (Ginny is insured). I realise they have their place but my gut feeling is saying no. I haven't managed to speak to my farrier and obviously I will take her advice too on this, but I wondered if anyone else had any thoughts. It just seems a bit extreme for a mild case.
