So i bought a brand new albion close contact jump saddle in January. All was fine for a couple of months, horse and I both love it. It was fitted by the same saddler I've used for years.
Then he started to get a little rub on his back and sooner after he wasn't quite right so had saddle fitter out and physio. The flocking in the saddle had compacted down quite hard and he had to take it away to sort it out (normally he can ref lock/adjust on site but it needed a whole redo or something.) it was done for free as we only bought the saddle such a short time ago.
He was also sore in his back, with a muscle classically related to saddle problems. So had that treated then a few days off.
Got back on yesterday and went for a hack, he felt super, a bit fresh but really well in himself and happy.
Hacked again today, got lost and ended up out for 3 and a half hours. That's fine, he's very fit. Again he really enjoyed himself and felt super, all the tail swishing ect that started happening just before i got it all sorted was gone.
But when i brought him in tonight and started grooming hum, i noticed he has symmetrical swellings on his side, sort of just under where the saddle flap stops and slight rubs. (its a close contact saddle so 1 flap and long straps). He was incredibly sore, following the whole area the girth sits. I put arnica gel on it and he was going mad, flinching away from me, striking out with his front legs...he is not like that at all, he isn't a drama queen nor would he ever dream of striking out/running around when grooming, so it must be very very sore.
Any ideas? I'm not overly concerned about the rubs, he rubs everywhere this time of year, even where the reins sit by his neck ect, and he already had slight rubs there,ut they did get a bit worse today. But i am obviously v. Concerned about the swelling and soreness!
Our ol jump saddle was a long strap/close contact one too and I have a similar dressage saddle. So he is used to that sort of design and it's never bothered him before. he's always had the same girth too, never had problems like this.
Also to add, have had him 2 years so it's not the first time i've had him this time of year, last year although he had rubs, nothing made him sore.
I need to contact the saddle fitter but wh bank holiday may no have any luck until Tuesday...any ideas? I obviously won't ride him until he isn't sore by the girth anymore but ARGHHH, what is going on??
