Right i know there are alot of these posts out there but they dont seem to answer my questions!!

I had a worm count done in January on Ty and Inky, both came back <50.

I always worm in March and September for tapeworm using Equimax, Febuary and october/November for ESR using Panacur guard 5 day plan, and Equimax again Dec for Bots.

I dont want to give them any other wormers if i can help it as im trying to reduce the amount of chemicals etc so would like to rely on worm counts. I know the counts dont cover the above worms thus i worm as above.

They were last wormed March with Equimax and they are the only two ponies that graze my fields and i regulally poo pick.

Now the question is at what times of the year should i get worm counts done??? And how many a year should i do???

Worm counts should be done at 13 week intervals - ideally just before you worm so you can tailor your worming accordingly. My yard are wormed for tapeworm autumn and spring. They are also done over the winter for bots. I worm count just before I worm to deceide what product to use i.e. if the cam back with a worm count before the spring worming, I'd worm with Equest Promax to tackle tapes as well as the usual suspects.
I run my worming programme with Abbey Diagnostics. You should give them a call to talk it through as they are very helful

The times of worm counts are dependent on a number of things - what wormer you gave them last (for example, Equest 'lasts' for 13 weeks so you should worm count them towards the end of the 12th week, Strongid is every 8 weeks, so you should worm at the end of the 7th week), what your previous worm count was (if high, you may want to worm count and/or worm more frequently), the age of your horses (younger horses being more susceptible), your paddock management (if a 'wormy' field that isn't poo picked), etc.
Generally, though, I'd worm count a week before I'd worm.

I last wormed on 16.3.08 with Equimax for tapeworm so i dont think i can do another count for at least 2 weeks for this wormer. Ponios are 2 and 6 and both counts came back <50 earlier this year. I was thinking of worm counting them in about two weeks then not again till Sept time ( if the counts came back fine! ) would this be enough???

Tbh, only you can decide....normally this would be fine...but if you've turned them out on 'dirty' grazing or whatever, then you may suspect they have more of a worm burden.
