Another yard dilemma....

I must be a lucky person then, as I am on full livery, and sometimes I do not get to the yard for a week or so. I do travel a decent distance time wise, however, I have never arrived at the yard to find my horses not exactly where they should be at any point of the day or night. The correct rug is on - or they are naked - the correct amount of hay and haylidge is in the stable. The beds are the right size and depth, the waters are clean, the feed bowls are washed out and should anything need to be changed or anything flagged up then they contact me. Videos if needed are sent.

In the last 9 years i have been there they have been kept in a max of 12 days - and only through ice and snow.
Same (well, when I was in full livery). Due to mental health issues I sometimes didn’t go for nearly 2 weeks. Never had any issues with worrying about my horse.

So I’ve checked out our old yard and it’s full, but we are top of the waiting list if spaces comes up. It’s still very quiet but there are a few more liveries than the last time we were there, so there might be some company for us, but funnily enough in the past 2 years of not being there I think they have only had 2 or so people leave which does speak volumes.
Hacking is great and has a nice arena (no lights but we can forsake those) and I trust the YO to look after them properly, they hay in the fields etc too which is a big plus. So I plan to drip feed my daughter the idea of more turnout, less hunger, better behaviour in the stable etc if we were somewhere else. Her pony is clearly miserable being in so much and the horsewalker as an alternative to turnout really isn’t great with her arthritis. I can’t see her being happy with the idea of moving though, whatever I say… it’s such a difficult one x

Good question....the livery really supplements the rest of the business and gives them more income. And it shows really. They put in feeds, top up haynets if we are not there, muck out and skip out. If we put them out they will bring in usually, not always!! We do get ad lib hay included which is a bonus and bedding...which isn't really the cleanest as they skip out rather than full muck outs.

If I wasn't able to get there every day then yes, they would do everything in our absence...but its got to the point where I feel I have to go up to make sure everything is done.
In that case you are paying people that you don't trust to.not provide the service that they are contracted to give you. You need to move ASAP- loyalty works 2 ways and YO isn't showing you any loyalty. You might as well pay for DIY if you are having to go every day to supervise the staff.

Eta, daughter needs to.know that the horse's/ pony's needs come first, with much higher priority than her desires. Otherwise she needs a bike not a pony!

I know, there just aren’t any other yards that would be suitable for us within 30 mins which is so frustrating…literally feel stuck where we are. We just can’t do DIY at the moment…

Also dreading telling YO and having major anxiety as the girls have zero insight and think they are proving an amazing service and take it VERY personally when people leaveit’s a very toxic environment if you are on the wrong side of them which is another reason i want to go for my daughters sake. I can imagine the anger I’ll get and the attempts to make us stay…Of course she only sees the friendly happy side and not the malicious side…argh at this point i would even consider moving to another area with more yard options! Ridiculous situation to be in!!

If you can afford it, tell YO and leave on the same day, obviously paying the appropriate notice. That way you don’t have to deal with much unpleasantness because you’ll only be there a few hours after telling them.
