I posted asking about how many piriton to give my mare. So I thought I would share what I have found out. As far as Piriton is concerned I texted the vet and asked how many a day for my 575kg mare and he said the normal dose was 25 twice per day. (Piriton is likely to make them drowsy, so I wouldn't ride after giving this amount). They only have a short life in the horse of about 3-5 hours. Then I looked on the internet about giving CITIRIZINE to horses and found several theses and they concluded that this is a suitable antihistimine for horses and they last up to 12 hours in the system with no apparant side effects. The dose is 0.2 to 0.4mg per kg of body weight every 12 hours. So in my horses case she will want about 12 x 10mg tablets (I figure once a day, whilst the pollen is at the highest) should do the trick. I hope this is a help for some of you,
