Ive finally succumbed to needing breakdown cover I had it and never needed it so let it lapse and lone and behold the box broke down/wouldnt start at a show a week after it lapsed. I had Organisation of Horsebox & Trailer Owners but they are just so expensive and Anthony D Evans is only £85, but is it too goo to be true?

Who has used them and are they any good?

I heard somebody mention that if you break down and they cant fix at the side of the road they tow your box with horses in it, is that true?

Here is one of the T&C's but it doesnt really make sense to me
4.1 Autohome will transport the horse(s) whilst in the broken down vehicle unless the vehicle is damaged in such a way it is not safe to do so. If it is not safe to recover the horsebox with the horse(s) in, it is the responsibility of Autohome to provide alternative transport for the horse(s) should you have not made any alternative arrangements. If it is safe to recover with the horse(s) in the horsebox and the member CHOOSES NOT to have the horse(s) recovered in the broken down horsebox by the Autohome agent, then it will be the responsibility of the Member to arrange alternative transport for the horse(s).
4.2 With regard to Condition 4.1 above, Autohome will either arrange to front suspend tow the broken down horsebox with the horse(s) onboard (at a gradient of approximately 4 to 6 inches off the ground) or straight bar tow the broken down vehicle. However, the final decision as to which method shall be deployed will be at Autohome's discretion.

Any info good and bad is much appreciated!

Been with them for years, have used them twice both for blow outs on the lorry and got it sorted no problem.

I've been with them for about 10 years and they have been great on the 2 or 3 occasions they have come to rescue me

All I can says is that the 'Autohome' operator is the one to make the decision as to if the vehicle is safe to tow with horses on board.

This was the case recently with a friend - when she queried this with the operator, it transpired that he had NO qualification for the transportation of horses and was purely basing this on mechanical operation only.
This needs clarifying by the provider (IMHO) as to have an untrained equestrian person to rescue you & who insists its safe to tow, when in an experienced horse owners opinion that it is not, is asking for an issue.

Hope you sort out what you need :)

Terrible experience I'm afraid. I had to arrange for friends to come and pick up my mare as they wanted to tow with her on board. As it was they caused hundreds of pounds of damage to my lorry by towing it incorrectly which they ended up paying for incidentally.

I have my car and trailer breakdown with them, only had to use them once (without trailer on at time) but I have no complaints at all, could not fault them.

I was with them but after being rescued where they winched lorry and horse on to a breakdown lorry I cancelled my policy. I was assured that they would take me home and then my lorry to the depot to be fixed. Once back at my yard they refused to fix my lorry unless I paid extra. After this I found out it is illegal to rescue the horse and lorry together. You are supposed to have a seperate vehicle for your horse.

Also wanted to have my box on a lie loader with my horse in it, I was furious as paid for someone else to come and collect my horse, even spoke to a horse and hound reporter about it tho the story was never run, wouldn't touch with a barge pole now and instead use Nfu

Always found them brilliant. They have always asked me if horses will need transporting but each time.( 5 in 10 years) I havent needed horses transporting. Twice have been punctures where they changed my wheel. Twice have been battery flat problem. They charged and we drove home.Have 2 new batteries now. Last one fan belt broke on Sunday and we were 2 miles from show my daughter hacked to show and got a lift home. The breakdown towed us home. We have been very pleased with service but you tend fo get various transporters abd might depend who you gdt

have my household insurance with them, just ring them and ask.
Long established business, friendly and have a good all round reputation.
