Well last week and Anti-bark collar arrived at my door! I have not ordered one, Lola doesn't bark so I don't think it's a hint from the neighbours!, We have tried to trace the old occupants of the house to no avail! We didn't sign for it so I didn't realise what company delivered it (A few more have since been and we have just sent back with courier) The landlord has no forwarding address and neither does the post office.

So .. what do I do with this collar!? lol! Does anyone need one? Would a charity make use of it? raffle prize?

Is it spray or buzz? Ebay and donate proceeds to charity?! A lot of the charities don't agree with them. What brand is it?
I used one on a female we used to have and it sent her batty, made her bark more.
I do know people who use them for dogs in transit who can get very vocal if someone comes near the car/van.

If its a spray collar I'll buy it? Or I'll make a donation to a charity or something?
Was going to pick one up at the weekend as it goes!
I know EMW could use some extra donations at the moment, so if you do want to go down that route, let me know.

Super! What make of collar is it, and how much use has it had etc? I use these collars when I travel both my dogs together in the car, not for the reasons CC suggests though, but because the howl the bleddy place down :(
And currently I only have one, as the other one copped it in the sink not so long ago :o

Do they work La la? Dex has taken to doing "we areeeeeeeeeee going somewhere blumming exciting- hurryyyyyyyyy Up MUM" barking, howling, wingeing in the car.

They do, but I think you have to be careful about what type of dog you use them on, I cant see all dogs reacting well to them. I dont use the citronella spray, just the plain one, and they only have them on if they are going in the car together (for my sanity) but yes they do work, even on dumbasses like Bryony.

Tyson has figured out he can get away with a dull droney kind of a whine and not get sprayed, but my stress levels can cope with that :)

its the one from pets at home ^^

it was 70 quid and i put a new battery in it and bought another can of citronella

used it on my barking spaniel but failed as she was so nervous!.....

no idea how much they go for..... would take offers but not too low as id rather hang onto it than "give it away" :)

Well I deleted it, but 'get a behaviourist' (second mention of a behaviourist of the night :p) was three words, not one, then I realised the poster might have meant 'won't work'.
I'll shut up now :p

Hi no I'm not but i work with behaviourists weekly due to my job. You can do so much damage to dogs trying to take short cuts. If you want a happy healthy dog both mentally and physical -find a good behaviourist!

Off topic as you have said its a buzzing one.

I have just got a spray one for Rocky (gone for the natural spray rather than citronella) and its fab. Rocky only ever barks at three times:

1) when he goes to the yard and is bored with me taking too long to muck out and he wants to go and play (he's on his lead).

2) when he meets a new dog and they are playing together but the other dog is either playing the "wrong" way or has stopped playing. That's his "Oi" bark.

3) when he goes out for his early morning/late night widdle in the garden and he can sense a fox has been in. He runs laps of the fence line and high speed to "see them off" and occasionally barks.

He doesn't bark that much but we wanted to stop it before all three became a habit. So we got a spray collar. Wow! What a difference. As soon as he barks it goes off so he stops. He doesn't try to bark now as he knows what'll happen - for instance we seem to have broken number 3 so he doesn't bark in the garden at the foxes at all. 1 and 2 he occasionally forgets as they are more excitment barking so in the heat of the moment etc etc.

We only put the collar on him for the above three occasions and it works. So anyone thinking of it, as long as your dog is not the nervous or possibly agressive type (no experience but can imagine the surprise might send an agressive dog into a "mood"), I'd say its worth a try.

2) when he meets a new dog and they are playing together but the other dog is either playing the "wrong" way or has stopped playing. That's his "Oi" bark.

This is the only one I think I disagree with, isn't the 'oi' bark quite important?. To be fair though I have not experienced this yet. :)

I can see how for aggressive and sensitive dogs they may not be suitable. I think Lola would have a heart attack!

As im in the car with a howling american bulldog now, i'll stick with the collar cheers. Works wonders. ... She is both happy & healthy (mostly) so thats good :)

Really?? You're going to punish your dog for getting excited? Do you shout at Dex when he barks? He probably just thinks you're joining in and its a great game, it couldn't get anymore exciting!

Can't quote as I'm on my phone but in reply to hooligan of the red nosed variety.

His "Oi" bark isn't when the other dog does something wrong (that would be fine and useful), instead its when they don't do it how Rocky wants it done. Hard to describe but it's a rude and bossy bark!!!

No because i am not an idiot . I know that ignoring it is the way forward, but if I have to travel him for any period of time the noise is unbearable- so should i just stop taking him to great places to walk in the car, as the noise is not tolerable- yeah whatever.

I spend his ENTIRE life trying to keep him calm pretty much ON THE ADVICE of a behaviourist, to help him with his Dog reactiveness- so um until you have something useful to say dont bother ta.

Occasionally a car comes down our road and you can hear it coming from a mile away.

Inside the car is the biggest, scary looking GSD - squealing and yipping like a Poodle incessantly

The poor driver must be immune to the noise - but it makes me chuckle every time they go past
