Anti bark collars

Do they work? Does the dog suffer any ill effects? Anyone used one successfully? Anyone had problems?

Maybe an option I need to consider so just want thoughts on them.

I had a Lab that barked when I left him, I tried a sonic collar. It worked by producing a high pitched noise when Ben barked, it took about a week before my neighbour commented that I needn't have 'got rid of' my dog. The collar worked for him and didn't cause any pain or worry to him. In fact when it made the noise he would just look around with a bemused expression on his (very dim!) face, bless him.

I have the aboistop collar. It works really well. We used to live in the middle of no-where next to a fishing river. I only needed to use it in fishing season as the dogs would be protecting their property which didn't go down too well with the fishermen who were looking for a relaxing day out!!

Didn't cause any distress, just squirts out citronella when they bark, usually one barks then peace. Makes a hissing kind of noise that they dont like.

It got us thru 5 fishing seasons of calm and peace,
