Can you buy antibiotics without a prescription.
Horse was kicked 3 to 4 weeks ago and I was treating with cold packs etc and the swelling had gone down .Today the swelling is up again and what I thought was a splint now feels like soft tissue swelling. He keeps rubbing of the scab from the kick and then the flies get to it again. I will ring vet tomorrow if it hasnt gone down.Ive kept him in and dressed and cleaned the wound with antibiotic spray.
The other question relates to his other leg he banged the knee badly 2 weeks ago and is still lame although it has improved. How long would you expect deep bruising to take for full recovery.

could you not put arnica gel/cream on the bruising to help?
I use it myself, and from having my whole foot completley black with bruising it was back to normal in about 3 days, plus, it was my horses bottle I was using, so should help maybe?

Not to worry you, but my horse had a kick to his cannon bone, with a pretty superficial looking cut that became infected. he was not lame at all, in fact I rode him - a pretty intense schooling session. vet came out, it was indded infected, but she also took x-rays which confirmed a fractured cannon bone....12 weeks of box rest and he healed fully, is back in full ridden work. Please please get your vet to check him, i would never have guessed my horse had a fracture, i sometimes feel sick thinking what would have happened if he didnt have x-rays.

Im not the sort to get the vet out at every cut and graze, Im a nurse and i usually manage these things myself, but if it isnt healing then there is a reason. Hopefully its just infection, but no you can't buy antibiotics without a prescription - you really need your vet.

Hope all goes ok, PM me if you wish x

He was examined by the vet when he had the accident .Looking at the scab this morning it has really improved no swelling so must have been flies and its now covered. The vet has been coming out regularly as he is recovering from surgery for hock just dont want to keep calling him out unecessarily. His legs were only scanned and xrayed the week before the kick injury as he had another splint and they thought it was suspensory.

I have been using arnica and rhus tox tablets and cooling gel wth cold packs. He had two weeks on danilon and all the swelling has gone in bruised knee.My daughter was trodden on by her horse at the same time and shes still bruised so maybe I havent given him long enough hes a bit wimpy and goes lame very easily.
