Hello,

B cut his chin today in the field and it is a bit deep.(about 5cm large)
When I watched him eat I could see it hurt him as he was sometime putting his head in the air and shaking it while swallowing the grass.
I have cleaned it and have put some wound powder on it (was planning on putting aluspray but he is petrified by it) but I had to have a fight and ask the farmer to give me a hand as B wasn't having any of it...

The farmer suggested I got some antiseptic cream as it would be easier to put on, does anyone know if this exists for horses?
I have also read I could use Sudocream instead of a horsey antiseptic? (I don't have any but can get some from tesco in the morning)

Thanks a lot :-)

no sudocreme doesnt contain any antiseptic so not suitable.

However if you mix in a few drops of tea-tree oil then you can use it as t-tree is a natural antiseptic

I always use Sudocrem on minor injuries / sunburn and have always found that it does a good job and the wounds heal nicely!

Try Derma Gel it's really excellent.

^^^This and its non toxic, you can use it on other animals too, I've put it on myself when I've been bitten by a horse fly or anything else as I sometimes have an allergic reaction to them, it works really well

I use Filta-Bac. It's fantastic for cuts, they heal up really quickly. Everyone on our yard uses it. It was first recommended by the vet and it's expensive but you can get it cheaper on-line. I don't use anything else now.
