Hi everyone

I've been at war with slugs for a long time now and nothing works but I've been advised to use salt and I'm happy to do that to stop them getting in my kitchen but I saw someone on another forum has the same issue but they were told salt can attract ants which I dont want either , I looked it up on Google and found salt can kill ants or they prefer sugar, does anyone know if I put salt down to stop the slugs will it attract ants?

The best way to stop slugs is a bear trap at their entry point.

Using salt is awful, plus has a huge impact on any other wildlife. We’ve hugely reduced our slug population by ensuring a wildlife garden is as biodiverse as possible, attracting natural predators and a healthy eco balance.

Using salt to kill slugs is really horrible they die of dehydration I know they are a pest but I wouldn't do it.

How are they getting in the kitchen ?
From what I can tell from the kitchen sink.

I have a lot of wildlife round here like hedgehogs and field mice as well as a lot of cats who come through and I don't want them drinking it by accident and then getting poorly.

What about spraying my kitchen with white vinegar?

I did have ants coming through my living room window and they were always all over my window sill but after spraying it with vinegar everyday both inside and out the ants haven't been back. I know slugs hate the smell of vinegar.

Neither the cats or the hedgehogs will drink beer from the trap, especially if it’s a closed top one (and there is a plentiful supply of water).

Can be any beer?

Do you think putting mesh wire around the sink might stop them since the holes are tiny?

Just a weak beer. But I also like CC’s suggestion. You can also try blocking the entrance, yes.

You can also get mesh plugs that act like a sieve which will stop slugs coming up in to the sink.
