my mare damaged her tendon in her rear leg in january 2007. the vet told me she needed the anluar ligament cut to allow swelling and if that was done then she would be permanently out of work, they suggested using hes as a brood mare so i did. sadly she lost her two foals we had of her. i am now being told by people that the vets i used arent very good, and horses that have the ligament cut can come back into full work?? the ligament being cut isnt the problem its haw badly damagedte tendon was?

If the vets you used aren't very good, then I would get another vet recommended to you and ask them. I don't think this question can be answered on the forum as there are so many variables.

I have a mare who had her annular ligament cut three years ago and she's been back in full work for the past two years. just have to watch the ground but I've had no problems.
I have another boy who managed to sever his own annular ligament by sitting on a flint! It was totally severed and the base of the tendon sheath was also sliced. I have a seriously good vet who had him fixed up and back in work in four months and not a hint of lameness since.

my horse has had both his hind annular ligaments cut and is just about sound enough for hacking. he is 23 though and was 20 when he had the op.
