Anxiously waiting to hear back!

You lucky devil to get such a lovely looking and obviously tough mare for free! Can we know her breeding in due course? She's very like Charlie and he was a delight (and his lameness was entirely from an accident where he had broken his sesamoid bone, not due to any inherent weakness).
.

Is there something you can call her from her passport name? Even just to give you/us an idea?
Can't wait to follow how you get on with her!

Sligo! Which is an Irish town..

I quite like Bee 🐝 as they’re elegant and pretty but not sure!

Her sire is New Approach, dam is Illandrane. I don’t know much about TB breeding so would be interested if anyone else does!

You’re quite lucky to be able to choose any name - with my new (unborn) foal I have to pick an Icelandic name, and they’re not all that pretty sounding!

How about a flower name? Zinnia, Iris, Rose, Blossom, Daisy.

Or Bambi?

Her dam has produced a winner over fences as well on the flat. She sold through Tatts as a yearling for 20,000 Guineas in book 2.

That’s really interesting.. and thank you so much for sending the pic of her racing over. I haven’t been able to find one!

Her jockey was called Saffie.. think that’s a contender for a stable name as well! Her breeder was Watership Down Stud.. thought of the stable name rabbit (which is different haha) or even Hazel after the female rabbit in the film.

I do quite like Saffie!

I think Saffie is a great choice

Catching up on this thread, and I think Saffie would be perfect given that you already thought of it (as Saphie), then saw it was the jockey's name.

Congratulations, she looks like a superstar and bizarrely, given I haven't ridden for ages and adore my little ponies, with no thoughts of getting a ridden horse anytime soon, I'm extremely envious!

I don't like the concept of fate, but the idea of serendipity - hell yes! ❤️

So she has arrived!! 😍

She’s never been in a trailer before so was a little unsure, took a step, had a sniff and walked in within a few minutes.

She travelled really well, might of kicked out once. I think she liked the fact my trailer had no partition. When we arrived she was quivering and sweating (assuming adrenaline thinking she will race, maybe anxious as well?) but she was super polite, waited for me to undo the bar and walked off very calmly.

She then got very wound up, I walked her around and then up to the paddock which is the quarantine paddock. It’s electric fenced at one side (quite low I suppose) she can’t touch horses but can see them. Let her off and she just trotted straight through the electric fence, cantered up the track back to the yard! Luckily a livery/friend was in the right place at the right time and managed to open her arms, slow her down and catch her.

I put her into the stable, she instantly relaxed and started eating hay. She’s had about 10 wees (and pooed) but she’s a lot more relaxed. She hasn’t cut herself thankfully and probably a good thing she’s barefoot cantering up the stones!

I called and explained to the YO (who wanted her quarantined for 3 days) but he was ok with it. I’ve left her in because she looks like she’s about to get down and have a sleep.

Going to try putting her out in another field later, which is about 6 acres full of grass (should distract her) which is a mix of post and rail with electric but quite a high fence. She can also touch my other mare over the fence and 3 others. 🙏
