Ive never been interested in saddles, but ive become a little obsessed lately reading reviews on saddles, I have a wide/short backed arab, my friend lent me a thorowgood cob saddle, it fitted his shoulders/withers lovely but was to long in the back, he needs a 16inch { im only small} which they don't do in the cob saddles, the pony club saddle comes in a 16inch with changeable gullets, has any adults ridden in one, are the leg panels long enough? are the comfy?

I ride in a 16" thorowgood pony club saddle, it fits my round native well, and I find it very comfortable. I`m 5ft 1in and a size 12 and have no problems with length of panels. Hope that`s of some help.

I borrowed my daughters 16in pony club saddle while I was waiting for a new one with my mare. I'm 5ft 5ins, but quite short in the leg anyway. It was actually nice to ride in.

I used to use one on my Arab x mare, they have a nice flat seat which makes them feel bigger to sit in. I also have the thorowgood Jill Thomas Endurance saddle in an xw 16.5 which is very similar but seems as though it is designed with an Arab in mind and seems to have even more room even though it is designed for a short back (it might be for sale as i have just bought a FlexEE).

The cob version was too long for mine too, had one for a while.

I used to have a Turf & Travel Club saddle and I'm 5'7" tall and had no problems with the flaps. When jumping I didn't have enough room to raise my stirrups much, but all in all it fitted my short backed mare and was comfortable.

Some people do find the flaps too short (panels are the bits filled with foam or flocking, the its your legs sit on are flaps :)) but if you fit the saddle and it is balanced (a larger rider can sometimes make the cantle sink) then there is no reason for a petite adult not to ride in a "pony" or "child" saddle.

Hi,

Not sure about the Thorowgood synthetic saddles but I have a Kent and Masters pony saddle (so exactly the same tree but leather) for my short backed cob and have no issues with the flaps - I'm 5'2".

I got the saddle through Rideaway, and they told me it was possible to try the saddle, and if I needed longer flaps on the leather version it was possible to get one made by K&M as a special order - don't think you will have a problem but if you are looking at buying new you could ask for the Thorowgood too :)
