As you all (probably!) know i rescued my spangle Jake last summer. He came from 2 (i think!) broken homes...

When got him you couldn't shout at all, make any fast movements around him at all, he even used to flinch when i coughed/sneezed! When i approached the kennel to let him out he would go round and round in circles really fast and then roll over and wee on himself

He was obviously mistreated ... thankfully he is now a total mummies boy and is now a happy, fun, alert spangle ...

My query is... he is very messy in his kennel i.e. poo and wee LOADS literally every day and every night. Now he's obviously been told off for doing this, hence the rolling over and weeing when i approached kennel.

either myself or my dad (whoever is doing the dogs that day) has to clean out at least 2/3 poo's every morning and evening and wash his kennel out daily. I pressure wash his kennel every week with dairy bleach.

I've tried everything to try and stop this ... any ideas? Trouble is as they are down the kennels they are left to their own device, i.e not like being in a house with someone around. I've tried different foods/changing meal times/walking after eating - straight after, an hour, 2 hours etc. Have even resorted to giving him treats as soon as he poo's out on a walk - just to try and encourage pooing outside is a good thing.

I always have to bath him too as he constantly stinks of stale wee

Any ideas? At all? Anything ....

Sorry it's so long

Sorry i didn't explain that bit very well!!!

If you look at this link .... scroll down to the bottom of the pics you will see my kennel set up. The have a run basically with a ledge at the back with their beds on ...

http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5273842/an/0/page/6#5273842

He poo's in the run part, i thin he may have done it actually in his bed up on the ledge a few times, but not many.

He does wee on his bed though, i have to change it a couple times a week...

does he wee on the half of the ledge that does not have the bed in it?, or more in the bed it's self, can u see marks running doen the plastic bed where he is cocking his leg? is his bed very wet or just little bits of urine on the blanket and does he pooh in his bed or on the ledge?

Well he won'rt sleep in a plastic bed like the rest, he would rather sleep on the concrete so i took that out and just put his square duvet type pillow thingy bed on the ledge, he's always moving it around the ledge from one end to the other so he just kind of pee's anywhere, sometimes on the wood sometimes bed ... same for poo ... lol what a lovely conversation btw

Lol..fine with me Im up to my knees in piss and [****] every day

As it's very hard when they are kenneled to get aroung toilet training as such, I personally would block of the majority of the ledge and make a small closed in box for him(like a tiny kennel, the smallest u can get away with.
IMO the rule of thumb with tackling passing motions in unwanted places is the minimise the space, hope this makes sense........so box the lot in, and make him a box with ply board, literally like a crate but a box made of wood as that would be easier with the set up, even if the plastic bed does not fit in any more, jsut lay vet bed on the floor space, if he removes it, he clearly wants to lie on the floor, he would be warm enough with that hair anyhow

Am I making sense.

Or if easier, place a small crate there and cover it, and block the rest of the ledge off(possibly with a slanted bit of wood/ply/chipboard, and see if he stays clean in avery small enclosed space.(obs still leaving the crate door open.

Yea i get you .... I can get my fiance (lol got that's weird typing that) to make a box for him and try that.

I obviously guessed it was a insecurity issue when i got him but thought maybe with him coming out of his shell and having a decent routine might have bought him out of the habit ... but not so

ETS: spelling terrible - it's late my brain is sleeping!!

Sounds fine....the smaller the space the better, I never place dogs in crates any bigger than what they are....some people go for gigantic ones...I have cages of all sizes and even if I have to use a bigger than I would like one, I place a huge bed in to make it smaller, insecure dogs can gain a huge amount of security in a small space, they like to curl up snug.
Just make sure the rest of the ledge is ot of bounds too

This crate really is tiny ... as in he stands higher than it!! Not really a crate, more of a travel/ carry box.

If this works you do realise i will have to respect your wishes and never post a spangle/lab pic ever again LOL

i have posted a few pics b4, maybe you just missed them!!!

Rocky you can do anything with .. Diesel there is only 4 people in the entire world that can be in the same vicinity as him .... anyone other than me, OH, MIL and OH's brother he will attempt to eat alive!!!

QR my male will hold for hours rather than go in his run (I kinda understand, I wouldnn't go in my bedroom, either) but his sister will go for three and four hours walks - then come back and pee and poo in her run. We call her 'the muckspreader'

Otto is due a bath at the moment, he is absolutely stinking, but I feel mean hosing him with cold water in this weather!

Tell Jakey he can come Pigeon Shooting on Saturday with Otto

I doubt Otto will have very much to hoover up

You know the cartoon 'Dog' in the back of the Shooting Times?? He generally spends his time mocking his owner's lack of ability with a shotgun... That is definately how my Dad's dogs pass the time
