Any advice - please? Rider for pony.

We were going to loan one of our ponies but could not find a confident enough rider - he is a bit of a ginger ninger sometimes

A girl came yesterday and they are more interested in him staying with us and treating him as on loan.
She rode him - fell off twice - but has potential.
It is not a home i would send him out to but would like her to come and ride him under instruction - my daughter is qualified

Anyway although he will be exercised i was letting him out on loan due to him needing to work and it would be one less to pay out for.
What i am getting at is how should i go about things? We are happy for him to stay with us and help the girl but what about payment? I don't know how to word it. I would like them to treat him as there own but with supervision. I would also like them to cover costs of farrier, worming, insurance, vets etc.
How would we do it?
If you can understand this any advice apreciated. Thankyou.

You need to do a loan agreement - the good old BHS have a sharer agreement, assume they have loan as well?

Assuming payment hasn't been broached at all with them yet?I'd just bring it up in conversation next time they are around or ring them and say "how do you feel about pony now (Oa couple of days later) - Just checking that you'd be agreeable to treating him as if on full loan with supervision? Ok then, would you like me to run through the costs involved?..."

Yes i would settle for a contribution - every little helps. They were looking for a pony on loan but said this way would be better. To be honest they are not ready to go it alone, but this would be a good stepping stone.
We have loan agreements, i suppose i could changs some wording. I am easy going and let things go along but nowadays everything seems to need to be in writeing.
I did mention costs but it was not discussed properly and i want the girl to come a few times and see if it will work for them, us and the pony.
You have put it a good way of broaching the subject thankyou. I am not good with words and people.

Ahhh well it sounds like it could work out for all. Hope it does, sounds like if she can stay on him a bit more he could teach her an awful lot!!

I wouldn't drop it into conversation as then you will seem quite casual about payment and that's how they will be.

I would approach it as business payment, make sure they know upfront how much it will cost....that's just me though....
 
Just one thing - be careful of charging for instruction as you fall foul of the insurance rules if you teach on your own pony. It doesn't matter if the pony is on loan or not even yours, if the pony is in your care then you cannot charge to teach someone on it as you will be counted as a riding school and need full insurance, business rates etc.

However your daughter can offer 'free advice' and you can charge in other ways ie for the livery and services, but not directly for any riding instruction.
