my mum has a 14.2hh gypsy cob had her since september last year but ive just started riding her so she gets some proper exercise as my mums just a beginner. Jubilee is 11 and not really done much just been a kids pony as far as we know, she is still overweight but its been a slow process to just get her to the weight she is just now.

My dilema is she is fine in walk and trot but really unbalanced in the canter i have to hold her head and take her weight in order for her to be able to canter and its normally only a few strides. She is bum high and if im right this will make her more on the forehand.

Is there any techniques or pieces of equipment that can help her find her balance, she canters fine on the lunge???

Im trying my best, ive tried trotting poles to get her to "step" more if that makes sence only asking for canter coming out of a corner so she is on the straight .

Im not very heavy only 8st and 4ft 11 so its not like im too heavy for her.

Any suggestions would be really appreciated x

As she is still overweight I personally would only canter in straight lines, and not in the school. As she gets fitter, you'll be able to progress to doing more work in the school with her, and her balance will improve as she's able to carry herself better.

She doesn't need gadgets, just consistent work - not in the school.

were off out a hack tonight :D i have loads of amazing off road hacking with hills etc only thing is she wont go out on her own and im at home with my horses my mum cant ride mine i think she would be too much for her. and i have them at home i would love to be able to just go out on my own with her the way i do with mine but were not at that stage yet lol just got her going out in company ( shes very nappy. i suppose there are always pros and cons to having your horses at home :D
