Hi, I have a 16.1 tb/id, who is nappy and quite opinionated, when I bought him he came with a myler combination, and a ns ported snaffle, I have stopped using the myler, and am using the ported snaffle, he is allergic to stainless steel, he has a narrow pallet with quite a fleshy togue, but my trainer has suggested I try him in a french link, can get quite strong, I need to find a french link that is'nt stainless steel, any help appreciated x

Google 'horse bit trader' they give free advice, I've emailed them in the past and was very happy with the advice given. The advice is free but I think they hope you'l buy/hire a bit off them in return (which I never have!).

Sweet iron and copper! Or those ones that look like brass?,they may be plain copper. French links are the kindest bit, kinder than single jointed snaffles because they have a broken nutcracker action. You may want to try a French link dutch gag or something along those lines, they're in between a pellham and a snaffle, a bit of poll action but if he has a sensitive poll then steer clear! Good luck

Not keen on them myself as they aren't long lasting, but if you're stuck what about a happy mouth one? Only cheap so you could get one to try whilst you track down a sweet iron one, & you won't spend a fortune trying bits out.

Would recommend you try the NS Universal Gag. It will give you a bit more control than the snaffle version but it comes in 14mm and even 12mm mouthpieces which is perfect for horses with a low palate and a large tongue. :)
