Hi, I have posted about this ages ago but wondered if anyone has any advice.
My boy has had a tongue vice/habit since I owned him as a just backed 4 yr old, he is now 9. He draws his tongue back almost constantly from the minute his bridle is put on and at times seems almost trance like. This then makes him spook at the most stupid things as hes almost half asleep. To add to this whilst doing it he tilts his head to the left and I find right bend almost impossible. His teeth are done twice a year as he has a molar missing, I reckon Ive tried every concievable bit going, kkultra, correction bit, mylers, various NS, mullen mouth, loose rings, eggbutts, happy mouths, pee wee, magic bit etc etc with plain caveson, flash, drop. We want to do dressage so a hackamore isnt an option although I have tried one!
Today he felt fantastic in the school until I noticed his tongue, he had got it over the bit which he doesnt normally do.
Any miracle cures or advice.
Thanks for any replies.

Grackle?? Stopped our TB from head tilting and allowed bend both ways. though you can't do dressage in it we schooled in it and changed to the drop for comps only as he wasn't as good in it. also have you tried a vet wrap around the bit?? messy solution but gives the bit a soft texture. you can buy a blue wrap thing from robinsons especially for the job. the softness is better than every type of metal so he may not hide his tongue

Thanks for the replies.
Forgot to say Ive given the poor boy a nice smile

by raising his bit. He has a fleshy tongue and a short smile (if you know what I mean) so I cant raise it to high otherwise he has a million wrinkles at the corners of his mouth.
I did buy a Grakle but its the mexican version and I dont want it to rub his cheek bones as his mouth is that overactive, he gets rubs from both the flash and drop. I struggle fitting nosebands high enough as his mouth is short, so by raising the noseband I end up pulling the bit up too high with the flash strap or drop. Its hard to explain, sorry.
I will try the latex wrap, didnt think of that, I have used one in the past.
Thanks again
