Any clever ideas how to solve this?

If your 20 acre field is well fenced, i would be tempted to turn him out in it, with a friend for a week, or as long as it takes. With the company he should find for himself that it is not so scarey, and settle.
Although saying that, he might find he likes it a bit too much, and not want to be caught.

How about putting some 'obstacles throughout your field? Maybe a few jumps, a few logs. Just small, but create a trail so that he can see where to go and have fun? Then try removing them one by one? Or spacing them out further? You could maybe use the same obstacles in a smaller space that he is comfortable with first, before you move them out into the wider space. He sounds very agorophobic! Good luck,

Sue

What breed of cows??
Can't you paint him, for camoflage (sp) no one would know, honest, unless they are idy bidy little dexsters or something.

LOL! WE've got dexters and British Whites, he's bay:D
But seriously it has been just fertilised, the grazing withdrawal period is 15 days I think... and there is barbed/plain wire on 2 sides.

Unfortunately, he doesn't give me the chance...
Imagine just going through a gate, you get 3 steps past it, the dumblood looks up and plants himself, you put your leg on, he lurches onto your hand and starts running backwards... now, you don't really want to get onto road backwards as there is rather large ditch on the other side, so you turn him around and the Peabrain starts running backwards into the field:mad:

O boy .... worse than I thought. What does he do if you just let him stand when he plants?

R - he stands there... and stands there... and then starts jogging on the spot, on a good day will think about it a bit and make another 3 steps...
There is a reason his nickname is Peabrain:D
As my neighbour says - he's stuck in reverse, I need a new gearbox LOL

LOL, don't worry yet Peabrain's 2 best friends - Dimwit and Grumpy aren't outdoorsy either, but cope with the fens just fine:D
On the whole, all of them are more relaxed here then they have ever been whilst living in Staffordshire:)

After giving you the option of blinkers and reading the rest of your posts for resolving his issues I have come to the decision that you have caused all of his problems:p.Fancy naming your horses dimwit grumpy and peabrain. Self inflicted name calling has hurt his feelings.
Incase you feel the need to respond violently ,I should share that my mare is called Tatty bag.:D

I don't have any advice but I think this is hilarious! Not for you obviously but I can just imagine it happening and you just doing half an "around the world", grabbing the tail and then- tally-ho! :D
