Any cob owners?

My horse has what feels like scabs at the back of his knees. When you pick at it, it feels like a build up of grease rather than scabs. My friends cob is also suffering with this, only his are itching too.
Has anyone come across this problem and if so, what is the best thing to put on it?

Yes, one of my cobs has is, the other doesn't seem to get it at all

I've not found a cure yet so will be interested in replies.

mine gets it behind the shoulders and found regually ho clothing stops the build up and itchiing

Clean it up and get the scabs off then use sudocream on it .Most cobs get a bit at he back off their knees the sudocream acts as a barrier and keeps the infection and scabs away.hope this helps your horse

On my mare's vetting, the vet called it "typical cob scurf"

And can be got rid of by worming with ivermectin every three weeks, but it doesn't always work, and costs alot.

In YourHorse (issue 299) someone wrote in that they tried Ivermectin, changed to worming with Noromectin Sheep Drench, had no improvement after 12 weeks so rubbed sheep drench directly onto horses legs - improvement in 12 hours. She rubs the noromectin into the feathers every 6 to eight weeks now. Haven't tried it myself yet!

Nope that is not mud fever, it is grease, many people with hairies think they have mud fever when in fact is is grease. Will send you the long PM too.
