My cream/pally stallion has thrown a palomino foal (straberry/chestnut roan mare) and a buckskin foal (bay mare), do you think he may have a cream gene? sorry if i sound thick i havent got a clue when it comes to colour! His dad is chestnut and mum same colour as him.

Buckskin, palomino, smoky black, pearlino, creamello and smoky cream are dilute colours that are caused by the cream gene (first three have one copy of the cream gene, the last three have two copies of the cream gene).

If your horse is a palomino, then yes, he does have the cream gene.

thanks for your reply, i now realise i AM pretty thick for asking such an obvious question DOH! SO do you think he is more likely to throw dunns and palominos or has he just been 'lucky' this year

As palominos have one copy of cream, they have a 50% chance of passing it on to a foal.

He doesn't have the Dun gene, but he can sire buckskins (which are often mistaken for bay duns).

ETA. Re Dun, if you bred him to a mare with the dun gene (eg a highland) you could get a foal with both dun and cream.

Sorry thta what I meant buckskin I always say Dunn but as he's a section a it's impossible for him to be Dunn (this is one of the little things I know about color lol) thanks for your help.
