Any cons to hogging???

You are losing the protection of the mane so the horse is going to need neck rugs in winter and a fly rug in summer to replace it. You also want to be sure you're going to like it because it's a long job trying to get it back as it was if you don't!

From a purely aesthetic point of view it will put more focus on the neck so it's only really a good look if you have a horse with a solid, well-muscled neck. :)

The only one I can think off is if that particular horse is sensitive to flies. Some can get a bit weepy but easilly solved with a fly fringe. Makes most things a lot easier though!

Well this is Ed

I would be hogging purely for aesthetics, I have always wanted to hog him, but I'm still only 60/40 so looking for some guidance!

Have you got a side on pic? I think so much depends on their overall shape and topline development as well as the need to have a nice neck.

That said, from that pic I'd say go for it. But then I would wouldn't I!! :D

Only con I can think of is that you have a mane comb you no longer need!
He looks like he has a chunky neck, so I think being hogged would suit him down to the ground.

Is he cobby enough to hog? he looks quite light weight to me.
If you want to do it wait til about february or march so he has the protection for the winter.
I think it def makes their necks look better and neat, the winter is the only draw back really.

Aww, he's got a lovely face Kitty. :)

I think he'd be fine hogged, his neck is good (and on the right way up if that makes sense) and he's got a decent width of chest.

For a cob he'd definately be a lightweight but that's no bad thing. :)

And you have his mane respectably short anyway so if you hate it it'd be back by next summer. :D

Even if it doesn't suit him, how is the perfect time because you've got all winter for it to grow back before the summer starts! If you do hog him, all other fluffiness also has to go- no feathers!! Go for it- I think he'll look sweet, and it'll save so much plaiting.

Thanks Three, he's beautiful isn't he? My handsome tiger :) It was actually your pic of Dom that started me drooling (again!!) I love having him all clipped, trimmed and beautiful :D

In fact I'll steal him

I hope you've got a big car - he's bigger than he looks in pictures! :D

He always reminds me of a tang warhorse

In fact, this could be him only it's legs are too long! :D

Once Ed's done we could join forces and invade the world! Mwahahaha
