Sorry if this sounds bonkers. My Mum (86) made my OH one of her world famous Dunbdee Cakes for his Birthday.

I colllected it today and brought it home. Cut into it and it is absolutly raw in the middle.

Could I stuff it in a tin and recook and if so how??

I havent the heart to tell her bless her.

No, don't do it, you'll give yourselves food poisoning!

How, with an undercooked Dundee cake, can you give yourself food poisoning? Indigestion maybe, but not food poisoning.

Tell your mum it's not cooked and can you have the other one please?

Oh bless her, is the other one still there? Maybe you could tell her (gently) and collect the other one. How under cooked is it? If its not a zillion miles off I would probably try shoving it in the oven or microwave (but as you can tell I am a rubbish cook so my lot are used to being fed my disasters

and have probably built up an immunity!!)

Its not just undercooked in the middle it is totally uncooked. I will have to tell her I have a deal with her that we always tell the truth so she wont not tell me if she is ill so as I lied to her about last weeks concussion and the bruise on my elbow I'll have to fessup on the cake front.

Won't it have eggs in it?

I too am a useless cook, but I do think you'd give him food poisoning for his birthday if you try to re-cook eggs!!

OK I have done the evil deed. I phone her up just now and said Mummy I promised I wouldnt lie to you and told her.
She said she'll keep the other one for us. Heres betting she cooks another just in case.

I wonder what happened? Her oven must have had a seizure for the cake to look cooked but be completely raw inside (which, I must admit, wouldn't be a good idea to eat).

Poor mum, I bet she was mortified!

I would cut it up, douse it liberally with a favourite tipple eg sherry, whisky, cointreau, put a lid on and bake in the oven at 160 C with a cover/lid for about half an hour. The heat and alcohol will totally kill off any bugs, serve with custard, cream, or vanilla ice cream

Then collect the other cake.
