is there any true cure for sweet itch? a neighbour who breeds cobs has this problem with more than one animal, he lives near the river which i know doesn't help but does anyone have any ideas? he's tried most "treatments" but to no avail.

unfortunately i do not think there is.

Not yet. There is currently a vaccine under trial, and results are looking good, but not a definate or generally available yet.

there was an article in H&H this spring and the vaccine looks very hopeful. otherwise it's a case of sticking a Rambo Sweetitch Hoody or similar on them... bought 1 for my girl this year and it was an absolute godsend, worth every single penny.

i dont think there is a cure but you can help manage it. I used itch free fom d&d and fed that and blastered him in net tex stop itch salve great stuff!

My little sec a, last summer, got very itchy, rubbed his tail and mane on the fencing til he was bald in patches, I put him, on low dose antihistimines (from the vet) and it controled the need to itch. Not a cure, and might not work for acute cases of sweet itch, but it certianly helped him.
