I run a small livery yard & while the hacking round us is OK, if we had access to some of the headlands round the arable fields in the area, that would be fantastic. Before I approach the local farmers, I wondered if anyone had done something similar? I know there are restrictions if the farmers are getting government subsidies for the headlands but are there any ways round this? If you do have an agreement with a local farmer, how much do you pay them & do you need specific insurance?

Sure there was a thread about this not too long ago.

Don't think you can ride on set a side though but you would need to chat to the farmer whose land it was to get the real picture. Some farmers are horse friendly and some are not so really depends on the farmer. Common courtesy goes a long way and the occasional bottle and offer of help if they need also go a long way. I would have thought your normal insurance would have covered you. I would be wary about entering into a financial agreement with the farmer as that may cause issues in the event of an accident and stop them getting subsidies

Good luck

Edited to add: However above was for an individual basis whereas if you were thinking for your liveries I don't know
