hi
I am going to have to make a claim from South Essex IB(been with claim free for 4 years), any one got any experience with them, good or bad?? I have read other posts with people saying their companies made them pay half of an MRI, I cant find this anywhere in policy, do you have to specify when take out policy for MRI's? any idea how much a bone scan is?
I have unidentified left fore lameness but not foot related

i never had them for horse insurance but i had them for my lorry.
paid for the gold service meaning i got picked up and transported home should my lorry break down.

hmm
well when my lorry did break down i was helpfully told by SEIB that they didnt have a lorry in the area.
i was left standing on the edge of a busy road with 2 horses as SEIB told me to let the mechanics take my lorry - this was before they decided they didnt have one in the area.

i had to get police to section the road to keep the traffic away and arrange for a friend to collect me.

i cancelled my policy the next day.
amateurs.

I have insured with them, and they were fabulous. I claimed and my premiums stayed the same, no probs.

I then tried to insure another pony (who was worth less!) and the premiums had gone up by £100 for some reason...

I used to be, claimed, and they were brilliant. I'm now with Scottish equestrian and I noticed that at renewal they had put an exclusion saying 50% of MRI. Only thing with SEIB is that they don't cover transport and only 50% of livery at equine hospital, whereas Scottish cover all these things.

At least 2 people allegedly having issues with them elsewhere. I'm not encouraged to insure with them, but thats just my personal opinion.

Ive claimed for damage to my lorry had no problem.

Ive also used thier breakdown service and they were wonderful, with me litteraly within 5 mins (i was panicing down the phone to them) and had transport for the horses home and the lorry to the garage within half an hour. They were also wonderful when i said that i could not unload one of the ponies at the side of the motorway as he would completely freak (is not good with lorries). they made arrangements for the lorry with horses onboard to be put on a low loader, transported to a local bird sanctuary, unload lorry from low loader, unload ponies from lorry and load into a new lorry and then put the lorry back on the low loader and take it to the garage whilst the ponies were taken home.

I have always used SEIB for lorry and horses and never had any problems.

I have just made a claim for my horse which includes an MRI, livery at Liphook and many other things and it has been fine. You do need to get their permission before the MRI which involves sending them a vets report stating why it is necessary. We kept them informed all the way through sending them any invoices/reports as soon as we have them and they have been fine.

There was one girl who was really rude on the phone when I called to tell them that it was looking like an MRI would be necessary, but everyone else has been helpful and they paid out relatively quickly - with a little bit of nagging from us to make sure

lots of experience, mainly good.
paid out loss of use a few years ago
paid out loss of tack, last year...did quibble a bit as the theft was when our gelding was staying at another yard and the tack which was shared between 2 horses was insured with the horse still at home base ( apparently I should have had the same named tack insured twice)
this year have paid out mega money for bone scan etc. and op, but did check ok with them first ( and they responded within an hour so she could have it that day which I thought was amazing). ..and they did pay hospital livery fees. I just paid excess, trasnport and vet report fees.

if they had done that with me they would still have my custom.
Instead NFU have - and ive had no problems.

My lorries were always insured with them.
I had one written off by them and i was gobsmacked at the offer - miniscule.
I rang them about it and told them i was not happy.
They sent out another assesser and got a much highere payout but it took time.
The lorry was taken and auctioned and fetched more than the payout.
We had our details on it so people were ringing to ask about it.
It was a Mecedes. Had the poshest horse part you could think of, luxery living with central heating, hot and cold running water, full size cooker, fridge, wardrobe etc. It was comfier than my house but it was an old lorry.
They tried to pay out on the age of the lorry alone, not the condition etc. It was a cracker thats why it sold for so much at auction.
My premiums then shot up.
When it was broken into the door was completely mangled. I enquired about the door and they were going to charge me £200 excess. I found someone to fix it cheaper. My premiums still went up although i did not claim. Because i had told them it had been broken into that made the difference.
They are nice o the phone and easy to insure with but i was not happy with the way they tried to pay me.

I have both my horses with them and also my lorry. I have never claimed insurance but had to use the breakdown cover part when my lorry broke down.

They arrived within the hour, fixed the problem there and then and we were back on our way within 40 mins. couldnt have been happier.

Not impressed at all following a claim for injury to my youngster! 1st claim in 4 years.

I swapped from NFU when they hiked up their premiums and now wish I hadnt.

Wont insure another with them.

Not impressed with SEIB. I had my old lorry with them some time ago and it was broken into whilst at garage to be serviced. When I rang SEIB and spoke to a girl and asked for claim form she said it would come under gneral damage and that I would not need to pay excess. I though this was odd but waited for claim form - didn't arrive!! Rang again, spoke to a man who said it was criminal damage and that I would have to pay £150 excess. The repairs were only £90. I was very cross at being messed about and took my business elsewhere. Am now with KBIS both lorry and horse and so far they are great.

My horse and lorry are insured with SEIB. I can highly recommend them for horse insurance (have never had to claim on my lorry insurance touch wood). They've paid out for two general anesthetics for my horse in less than a year, have been fantastic to deal with in every way, and best of all don't put stupid exclusions on your policy. Highly, highly recommended for horse insurance.

Dont rate them at all. Had out lorry insured with them and it broke down and needed to be towed away and they were quoting it would take 3 hours before they could get someone out to us (even though we were broken down in a town). Anyway, was so unamused that left them and went to KBIS, who are much cheaper and much more professional, they actually send out a decent folder for all your paper work unlike SEIB who send out some scrappy white folder, shows how unprofessional they are.
