Ive got a Renault master conversion (which is the larger conversion, with the horse part on the back). Ive seen a few of the 'van' looking ones around although ive only ever seen them with a horse no bigger than 16hh.
I was thinking about these the other day and orginally i thought they would be unsutiable but now ive seen some around I reckon a new 'van' type would be no worse than my 1993 master to load and drive although headroom might be an issue?

After actually going to have a look at them today i wouldnt be happy putting my horse in one to be honest, there's not allot of head room and they just dont look right and im worried about the weight issue as well, certainly owuldnt travle with two horses in it they just dont appear big enough to me.
Im sure there are allot of different conversions out there maybe i still need to look around at a few more.

Im really happy with my renault master if you're looking for a 3.5 tonne. Quite a bit more headroom that the van type, also loads of room when you take the partition out. Drives just like a car, though i only take 1 horse (about 16hh) as only has just over a tonne payload. Its does feel heavier with my 16.2 warmblood in it and he stamps about in it! I can imagine the newer ones are much more sturdy though, think some can have up to 1.5t payload depending on the type, so i would advise to weigh before buying if poss

I have a van type and absolutely love it!
My boy is 16.1 and has loads of room. I used to have a 7.5 tonne which he travelled sideways in and he hated it now you don't hear a peep from him.
I looked at a couple before i got mine and didn't like them at all, they seemed so small, but eventually found one i was happy with.
Only downside to them is although i could put two in mine i personally wouldn't, they really are a one horse vehicle, but i only every travel one anyway.
They are a bit like marmite, you either love them or hate them! But a lot of people diss them without having ever tried one.
I am in South Oxfordshire and you are quite welcome to have a look at mine

No way jose they are a tradesmans van by the time they had a body conversion the 1 tonne payload would be about 300KG

, I saw a toyota hiace think it was on Ebay what a crock of sh t .. it was like a red van with the back cut off and a square body glued on
