My friend recently bought a pony for her child and is staying at my yard while they wait for their livery space at another yard. The pony seems to have some rubbing (hair is sparse and skin is starting show) at her withers and a tiny bit where the panel of the saddle sits from either an ill fitting saddle pad, Numnah, or saddle with the last owners. A lot of the hair has grown back and it doesn’t look irritated or red - it just looks like rubbing that occurred over a couple of months. They’re getting a saddle fitted for her at some point next week and aren’t going to ride her until they get that sorted, but in the mean times is there any creams or ointments you’d suggest that could just help it heal up a bit quicker? And anything you suggest to avoid this in the future to prevent it getting any worse? There’s no open wounds or irritation as I’ve said, just skin that is starting to get exposed and the hair is getting cut from past rubbing.
