Any guesses re: breed (and colour!)

A few weeks ago, we semi-accidentally ended up with dog number two! She's a 6 month old rescue, advertised as lab x pointer, but I'm not convinced. She weighs 15kg and is about 22inches to the shoulder. Looking at growth charts, this makes her 30% less than the average weight for a pointer of her age and 40% less than a lab.

She seems bright, and has picked up several things our first does within first ten days without being taught (like ringing bell on ribbon to go outside for pee). Fairly trainable, maybe a bit stubborn. Moderately affectionate but not clingy. Really pleasant wee soul.

Colour wise; She has pale hazel eyes and pink skin. Other than the spotty ears and pigmented nose, she has one small spot on her back. Apparently her litter mates were all black, so if there are any colour experts I'd love to know opinions!

I can *sort* of see the pointer maybe in the body shape? (If i'm really trying!).

I would say collie X too - due to the face.

Hmmm.. tricky one! Might be easier when she fills out a bit! She's beautiful though :)

Firstly, she's only six months and as she grows, so she will develop. My guess? Somewhere in her antecedence breeding, there will almost certainly be whippet, greyhound or perhaps saluki. She has a fairly pronounced jaw line, her tail carriage and rear quarters, and at a guess, would also suggest that there's also a bull-breed influence and her colouring would head us that way too, though why people insist on using bull terriers and their like, is beyond me.

No one can predict the finished dog, but her chest will almost certainly deepen, she already has a very smart and straight front, but only time will tell whether she could be called a lurcher. I strongly suspect that she may be lurcher-to-lurcher, and if I'm right, then she may well carry too much 'substance' when she's finally grown for her to have the required speed.

All of that said, she looks a nice and well grown pup, the above is no more than guess-work and I hope that you enjoy her!

Alec.

I too thought long dog at first! But thought, as I own two whippets, i'm just seeing them everywhere!

Glad it wasn't just me.

Really interesting responses! I think she has bull lurcher fairly predominantly in her. Our last foster pup was one, at at the same age she was taller, finer and leggier, but I still think she's got lots of it in her.

I can't really see the collie in her looks, but some of her mannerisms when playing are very collie, so there may well be some. I definitely can't see lab in her at all.

Not planning on using her as any sort of working dog; just want a running and hiking buddy, and in that I think she'll do nicely.

Stafford somewhere I would guess, but where once upon a time all cross breeds were likely collie mix, they all seem to be Stafford mixes now. Have you considered DNA testing?

I would guess Staffy/whippet or greyhound, although there might be a little JRT in there somewhere with those cute spotty ears ! I would not bother with a DNA test, they are very random and not cheap enough to be a bit of fun.

I only paid about £40 for one on amazon, it was as accurate as I expected - got the major breeds but the minor ones was a bit of a laugh

Those feet are very typical of a Dalmatian. Sighthounds have long, narrow feet, Dals have very short strong feet almost like hooves. She looks like a couple of Dal x Border Collies I knew a few years back, also I saw a litter of Patterdale x Dal a while back and some were white, some were black. Her face has a hint of Lurcher in though so who knows.

Oh I'd love her to be part patterdale! Our other dog is patt x JRT and the most loveable rogue I've ever owned!

I think her colouring really throws me off being able to imagine some breeds... she really is almost albino (pink skin, pale eyes) I presume dogs can't be partial albino? She's definitely a bit funny looking, but with her sweet nature, she grows on me every day!

She looks like a fairly heavy bull lurcher - there's all sorts bred into lurchers these days from bull breeds to collie to GSD/Mal to pointers. It's likely she's a reject from one of those litters for being too heavy to work rabbits

This is our lab x german pointer - clearly taken after the lab in colour and general build but her back and ears are all pointer! Yours looks very different but equally gorgeous!
